Video to edit on Monday, filmed by another crew. So overnight download of 45GB of footage. An hour this morning, importing, organising, keywords, and MultiCam synced.

These used to be fun to design and build. Especially when someone else is paying for it! P2 into FCP7, apple cinema screen, and full frame output to REC709 broadcast monitor + genlec speakers. Even the desks were custom built.

Its not gone... if you want that type of editing, well- you deserve it!
The death of editing... he’s not an editor anymore; he’s a producer. Is editing the old way gone forever? Maybe... if you edit 30-second YouTube Shorts. No... if you edit film or TV. Legendary editor Walter Murch said 51% of the reason to cut is Emotion. AI doesn’t have that.

Doesn’t happen very often, but it’s always nice to get an on-screen credit.

Nearly 40 years of video editing for broadcast TV News, and no it’s never actually been particularly glamorous

When you’re doing a story about air pollution from traffic, but don’t want to show vehicles number plates, Then you need to throw the background out-of-focus. And a long lens really helps

4 decades as a TV News Cameraman & Video Editor has led to so many amazing opportunities. No 2 days are ever the same. This was a whole day with the RAF, on one of the last flights of a Shackleton

So this is what AI thinks a coffee filled, veteran TV Cameraman / Video Editor, who is currently learning español, looks like. 🤣 not bad first attempt

New Video Editors. Nail the basics first. Learn the fundamentals of your NLE, learn keyboard shortcuts, study proper audio levels, colour correction and reading Scopes. learn about storytelling. Ignore any fancy transitions & graphics until you’ve got the basics right
