Despite a quiet night on #Reykjanes, scientists are looking worriedly at the GPS stations at #Svartsengi and #Grindavik. They moved in all directions, "which could best be compared to jumping on a trampoline."

Despite geological challenges, including a newly formed 25.7-meter-deep hole, Grindavík’s business sector is showing signs of revival. Residents will not be able to return home until land uplift ceases.

With only 110 rather weak earthquakes, the night on #Reykjanes was comparatively very quiet again and the power plant at Svartsengi reported a successful test run yesterday, so it is hoped that the employees can return soon.

As things stand this seems unlikely. The lava can be traced fairly accurately below ground.

This looks great, but, .. just a thought 💭... What if lava eruption 🌋 happens inside walls ?

Extensive construction work is underway around Svartsengi to create robust defenses against potential lava flows in case of an eruption.
The project, initiated on November 14, focuses on establishing a swift and substantial defense line using powerful equipment, including the country's most potent bulldozer.
Two protective walls are planned: one extending 4km around the Svartsengi power plant and the Blue Lagoon, and another 1.5km-long defense closer to the Sundhnjúkagíga range, encompassing Hagafell and Sýlingarfell.
The primary objective is to impede or slow the initial impact of any potential lava flow.

🟥 This mornings summary of the news with regards to the possible eruption in #Iceland
Good morning 😎
🔸 As of 11am GMT on Sunday, November 19th there has been no eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
🔸 Despite a generally calm night, an earthquake occurred around 5:30 am near Krýsuvík, west of Kleifarvatn.
🔸 The earthquake, measuring magnitude 3.7 according to the Icelandic Met Office is likely a result of crustal tension release rather than an indication of magma movement in that specific location. It's the largest in the area since Friday morning's magnitude 3 quake near Grindavík.
🔸 Over 400 earthquakes have been recorded in the region since midnight.
🔸 In Grindavík, residents registered with Civil Defense may be briefly allowed back to their homes starting from 9 am today, as per Þórir Þorsteinsson of Suðurnes police.
I'll update throughout the day.

A sharp earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred on #Reykjaness, about three kilometers west of lake Kleifarvatn, just after six thirty this morning, likely a trigger earthquake due to large voltage changes.
