Incuriousity will kill you! As a young person, it’s a crime to not be curious about your world. When @jordanbpeterson said the greatest skills you can have are reading and writing, I thought it was an oversimplification until I took stock of my trajectory. I realized that most of my ideas and opportunities have jumped at me in the place of reading, writing or reflecting on a concept I had just read or listened to. Read books that discuss concepts, ideas, essays written by brilliant and accomplished people. Read beyond your comfort zone. Read for the sake of knowing. In some cases, at the intersection of your primary field and another field you are reading about, you may develop a niche career out of it. You are privileged to be born in an age where you have YouTube, Google, AI. Act like it. How badly do you want to be extraordinary? If you are curious enough, you’ll have no need for mentorship. Knowledge is not scarce, source for it. You can be a master at anything if you devote 10,000 hrs to it. You want to write beautifully? Read If you discipline yourself enough to want something, If you’re tired of being mediocre, you will fight to get out. Be curious!

Rap this up. Stale.
This is what happens when you swallow western propaganda whole with no attempt to educate yourself with their internet. Have you heard of a not so little thing called colonialism and the human trade that disrupted our development? Was air-conditioning made before that? We don't plant trees? With all our forests and sacred groves that law, religion and culture demanded remain inviolate till same western laws and culture dictated they be cut down? Now they are the ones teaching us to plant trees? Before they stumbled on the science of conservation we were there. They stole these things from you, destroyed yours, then taught you to worship them for it. Same people with the over industrialized, smoking, noisy, stinking cities, literal concrete jungles that polluted the world, ushered in the era of climate change and destroyed the ozone layer. "Writer." Try to do some reading first ehn, so what you write won't be regurgitated centuries old propaganda missionaries were selling

Again, you miss the point. Vision Ancestors didn’t project a population bulge? Didn’t prepare against seasons water bodies would recline? You think on a hot afternoon if Okonta came back from hunting and into a pre-AC chilled hut, he would not offer all his game to his Ikenga in thanksgiving?

Our ancestors didn’t live in concrete boxes with micro windows, they lived in cold clay quarters with thatched roofs and lived very close to water bodies,I assure you, they did not face the heat you’re facing today

“Electrical engineering Project defense in an auditorium with no electricity.” How is this normal?
Replying to @Ifechideere
Said same elsewhere: Professors of public health living with mosquitoes and open sewers. Electrical engineering Project defense in an auditorium with no electricity. Hospitals with dirty toilets and poor hygienes. Doctors drinking sachet water. Something is amiss!

Even among educated Nigerians, trees around (no matter how harmless) means an undeveloped neighbourhood.

My first article for Praxians, our philosophy column at Zeitgeist Now @thezeitgeistnow. “If we Africans care about progress at a foundational level, we cannot hope to leapfrog into prosperity without first building and sustaining the intellectual cradles of our societies, testing and improving the ideas they spread, and aiming those ideas squarely at the advancement of our people. In developing nations, investing heavily in ideas and the knowledge economy cannot be an aristocratic luxury because ideas are quite literally the golden tickets out of poverty.” Read more 🫶⬇️
Iyefu Okwoli introduces her column, Praxians, with the article "The Primacy of Ideas". In it she outlines the philosophy that animates our work, which is the recognition of the primacy of ideas.

We need a new framework for learning in this country. Table-stakes intelligence in this climate is tree-planting. But you see even ‘rich’ neighbourhoods barren and arid. If you set an exam for the average Nigerian on how to combat our climate, they would write tree-planting. But we never do it. Why? Performative intelligence. We know how to say the right answers. But we seem helpless in reality.

Watched women sell palm oil to me from large peak milk tins. Much of the oil was wasted from transferring the oil to my jerrycan. And I though about those gardeners’ kettles. But they said using those tins is what they are used to. We are not always that helpless.

Projected deaths to the tune of 30k in the north in this heat wave. They pray on hot tar, their knees burning. They sell their wares under scorching sun and you wonder why they have not planted trees ever since!

Argued with someone here some time ago about why our forefathers did not venture beyond the seas like some others. And he said, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention.’ I still laugh about it. This crazy heat and what we have is the AC unit foreigners invented. We don’t even plant trees that are free. Trees that even animals plant.

African literature needs essays that chart the intellectual history of an idea across books, oeuvres, genres, & generations. We will get those essays when more writers read widely, think deeply, feel angrier, and decide to do something about it. Else we will always lag behind.

MR. PETER MBAH, THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! It is disturbing and completely unacceptable that under the administration of Mr. Peter Mbah, teachers in Enugu State are reportedly being threatened with disciplinary action for failing to attend a political rally organised to endorse him for a second term. A query letter reportedly issued by the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Education Authority demands that teachers explain within 48 hours why they should not face disciplinary action for failing to attend what the letter describes as a mandatory political mobilisation event held on October 10, 2026. If this letter is authentic, it represents a disturbing abuse of public authority. Teachers are civil servants, not political campaign agents. Their responsibility is to educate our children, not to serve as instruments of political mobilisation for Mr. Peter Mbah or any political party. In a state where many teachers continue to struggle with poor remuneration, inadequate welfare and difficult working conditions, the government’s priority should be improving their lives, not threatening their livelihoods because they failed to attend a political rally. We cannot continue to treat the people who educate our children this way. These are men and women who dedicate their lives to raising the next generation of Enugu citizens. Many of them are struggling to meet their basic needs, yet instead of addressing their welfare, we are seeing reports of threats of disciplinary action over political participation. Since when did attending a political rally become part of a teacher’s job description? What happened to freedom of association? What happened to the right of every citizen to support or refuse to support a political party without intimidation? Mr. Peter Mbah and his administration must understand that the resources and institutions of Enugu State belong to the people of Enugu State, not to the APC or any political organisation. Political support should be earned through good governance, not demanded through threats, intimidation or the fear of losing one’s job. If teachers are happy with your administration, they should be free to support you voluntarily. If they are not, they should equally be free to stay away without consequences. This is one of the things we are going to do differently @ourenugu @OurEnugu, we believe that government should work for the people, not the other way around. We will build a state where teachers are respected, properly remunerated and allowed to concentrate on educating our children. We will build a state where civil servants can carry out their duties without being pressured to demonstrate political loyalty to whoever occupies the Government House. We will build a state where people will not need to be forced to participate in political activities that primarily benefit politicians and their cronies. And most importantly, we will build an Enugu State where political loyalty is earned through performance, accountability and genuine service to the people, not through intimidation. The people of Enugu deserve better. Our teachers deserve better. And we must begin to demand better. Gaius Chibueze Director/Leader, Our Enugu OurEnugu.com
