Quite a welcome for the Born Perfect Caravan in Abudwaaq district, Galmudug!
@IfrahFoundation team was greeted with dancing and celebrations as the campaign travelled through the district, taking the message to end FGM into villages and communities.
The welcome was matched by public commitments from community and religious leaders to abandon FGM and support Galmudug's anti-FGM law.
A powerful reception for the women and activists taking this campaign across Somalia.

The Born Perfect Caravan has now reached Galkacyo, the largest and most populous town in Galmudug.
Travelling from Cadaado through Galinsoor and Bandiiradley, the Ifrah Foundation team has reached more than 7,000 people through six community sessions over the past several days, bringing together government officials, religious and traditional leaders, women, young people, local communities and people living in IDP settlements.
Galkacyo was an important stop. Its size and diversity meant the Caravan could take Galmudug’s Anti-FGM Law to a much broader cross-section of the population, while hearing directly from the communities whose support will ultimately determine whether that law makes a difference.
Across the route, community and religious leaders have publicly committed to abandoning FGM and supporting the implementation of the law. Local television, radio and media coverage is carrying those messages much further than the Caravan itself can travel.
From Cadaado to Galkacyo, the momentum is building — led on the ground by @IfrahFoundation and the communities putting Galmudug’s Anti-FGM Law into practice.

The Born Perfect Caravan has reached Cadaado, Somalia.
Over the past three days, the Ifrah Foundation team has travelled through Dhusamareb, Mirig, Meererguur, Godinlawe and Cadaado, bringing Galmudug’s Anti-FGM Law directly to the communities it was written to protect.
More than 4,000 people have been reached through five community sessions, with government officials, religious and traditional leaders, women and young people taking part. Over 200 copies of the Anti-FGM Law have been distributed, alongside public commitments from community and religious leaders to help end FGM.
The Caravan is continuing across Galmudug, making sure the law does not remain on paper, but is known, understood and backed by the people who can make it count.
Huge credit to our partners at @IfrahFoundation and to the local team carrying this work forward.

Fashion for change was an amazing event in #Nairobi. Fashion changes and so can culture. No girl should should have to suffer violence to belong. So many now agree that female genital mutilation is not culture, it’s violence. Let’s #EndFGM

ON THE ROAD TO JUSTICE ✊
Frontline leaders are on the road to Naivasha for the Justice for Girls Convening, bringing together people from across the world determined to end FGM and child marriage.
Travelling together are Ifrah Ahmed, @IfrahFoundation ; Aisha Hussein, @GirlEgd ; Alessandro Kalaiya, Frontline Ending FGM Kenya; and Mary Gituku, Frontline Ending FGM Kenya.
They’re heading to Naivasha with years of experience from the frontline — and a clear message: the women and activists closest to the issue already know what works. Now their solutions need to be heard, backed and taken to scale.
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
Today, the road to justice leads to Naivasha. ❤️

Africa does not lack solutions to end FGM. It lacks investment in the women already delivering them.
This Sunday in Nairobi, the @IfrahFoundation bring survivors and African women leaders together for Fashion for Change, part of Justice for Girls 2026.
The event will put survivor leadership, women's empowerment, and frontline-led action at centre stage.
During the Justice for Girls convenings, a new pooled fund seeded by Wallace Global Fund will launch, seeking to raise $100 million to accelerate global efforts to end FGM, particularly frontline and survivor-led work that remains chronically underfunded.

Dear Daughter/Born Perfect anti-FGM pledges pass the 120,000 mark. 🙌
During the Born Perfect Caravans in Galmudug, Somalia last weekend, more than 300 parents from remote hard-line FGM villages signed the Dear Daughter /Born Perfect Pledge - publicly committing to protect girls from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
The pledge, pioneered by Somalia's most influential women-led grassroots organisations, the @IfrahFoundation , has also led to pledge campaigns across the continent, with thousands signing the Dear Daughter/Born Perfect pledges in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Kenya.
Created by the Ifrah Foundation, it has since been adopted by Frontline Ending FGM activists across Africa. Backed by the Global Media Campaign, frontliners will continue to gather the pledges from 16 Days of Activism in November 2026 to Zero Tolerance Day for FGM in Feb 2027 with non-stop Caravans running in Kenya, Somalia and Guinea-Bissau, funded by the EU and the World Bank.

Frontline activist in Somalia are joining the Born Perfect Campaign✊
Today, our frontline partners at @IfrahFoundation officially launched the Born Perfect Caravans in Galmudug, bringing together key government ministries, justice actors, religious leaders, parliamentarians, women's groups and civil society organisations around a shared goal: turning Somalia's FGM law into action.
In a country where 99% of women and girls are cut, local activists will travel through 9 FGM hotspot communities in Galmudug, bringing the recent criminalisation of FGM into remote communities where women and girls are most vulnerable.
At each stop, frontliners on the Born Perfect Caravan will be joined by local influencers, religious leaders, media, police officials, doctors, and survivors to expose the religious, medical, and legal realities of FGM, and encourage its collective abandonment.
The message is clear: girls are born perfect.
Thank you to the German government and German Embassy of Nariobi @GermanyinKenya for believing in the frontline women of Somalia and Kenya.
With the trust and experience to fight FGM in their local communities, grassroots women and activists are driving real change on the ground faster than ever before - something that externally implemented projects have struggled to do for decades.

A revolution is happening across Africa: hundreds of local women are changing minds on FGM - at average of 79%.
Grassroots women are delivering real change on-the-ground with the Born Perfect Campaign. Impact results from the Liberia pilot campaign in February 2026 are here: 85% of those who recall the Born Perfect Bus Tour pilot said it changed their minds about FGM.
See the Liberia Impact Study here 👉 globalmediacampaign.org/libe…
The pilot, funded by @Irish_Aid and @UN_Women , shows that when local activists travel into remote communities, tell people that FGM is unnecessary, illegal, and harmful to their daughters, parents listen.
Next, the Born Perfect Caravans and media campaigns are launching in Somalia, led by frontline women at the @IfrahFoundation .
