maybe the funniest part of the bayeux tapestry is when they briefly pause the narrative to show you a guy called wadard who then never shows up again

Samhain, the thinning of the veil between the living and the spirit world. The beginning of the darker half of the year. The light this morning was lovely shortly after sunrise here in Glastonbury. #samhain

No I'm not Fiona from Shrek I'm Lady Macbeth! I'm filled from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty!! Thank you very much
The 'Beetle Wing Dress', which Ellen Terry wore to play Lady Macbeth, is one of the all-time greatest pieces of costume design. It's unbelievably beautiful. By contrast, the rest of the cast were dressed more plainly. Oscar Wilde wrote: "Lady Macbeth seems to be an economical housekeeper and evidently patronises local industries for her husband's clothes and servant's liveries, but she takes care to do all her own shopping in Byzantium."

Oh my goodness.
There was a period of several decades in the mid 15th century when the Flemish bookmakers produced books with the vellum dyed black, which could only be inscribed with gold or silver ink. This one is called "The Black Hours", from the Morgan Library in New York.

This made me gasp today. A copy of Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love from the mid 15th century. The first work in English definitely authored by a woman! Open at the 'hazelnut' vision. Absolutely exquisite. @britishlibrary #MedievalWomen
