ALT Ote kirjasta: ”The lifestyle that Houston represents is completely unsustainable, and yet it is among the fastest growing cities in America. It is, much more than New York or Chicago or London, a vision of how the cities of the future are developing. In large part because they drive everywhere, each person in Houston emits roughly fifteen tons of carbon dioxide per year. That is about three times what people emit in France or fifteen times what people emit in India. Incredibly, transport across the whole state of Texas accounts for 0.5 percent of the entire world’s CO2 emissions, or roughly twice as much as the entire country of Nigeria. All of those cars, driving between enormous air-conditioned houses, malls, and restaurants, are choking the planet. Actually, they are also choking Houston. The city’s air is among the most polluted of any in America, mostly thanks to ozone emitted by cars.”
