The earthquake occurred at 16:04 UTC on 7 November, at a depth of 38.1 km.
USGS data indicates strong shaking, with a maximum reported intensity of VI on the Modified Mercalli scale.
The latest earthquake follows other significant seismic activity around Japan, raising questions about whether further earthquakes could follow.
