You're not wrong here, but you blame the wrong people. We have the most expensive public healthcare system in the world. For the 2T the US spends on Medicare & Medicaid, we could afford to replace it with the public healthcare systems of most developed countries and have 1/2

You'll be happier if you are. But even if you prefer to be less grateful, less happy, if an analysis arrives at the conclusion that people with the highest standards of living in the world and in history can't afford a minimal quality of life, how good can the methodology be?

Socialism is the belief that Amazon workers would have spontaneously created Amazon if Jeff Bezos didn't exist.
“Socialism never works.” Well, it never works to bring prosperity, peace or liberty. But it does work to bring a lot of power and prestige to a very few politicians and bureaucrats.

People who make their own meals are "eating like a dog" apparently As opposed to the people who have food handed to them in a bowl
I agree with this. The people who keep screaming that it’s “cheaper” eat the same depressing, boring food, day after day. I’m not making chicken and rice and sandwiches and stew for weeks on end. Sure, that would be “cheaper” in the long run. But you’re eating like a dog.

I'm female, and I am a pro bargain hunter. But even an amateur can make a burger and fries for under $3 if you use the remainder of the ingredients for other cheap meals.

It's difficult to overestimate how damaging this view of teaching and learning has been for so many kids. Virtually every teacher trained over the last 50 years was taught that knowing stuff is the least important part of thinking. There are several European countries that rival the US in quality of life - Nordic countries, Switzerland, Germany, & Austria. But too many Americans invoke "Europe" to endorse policies of South American or Asian countries where quality of life isn't comparable to the US at all.

Why can’t communists be communist the way the Amish are Amish, as in, peacefully, voluntarily, among themselves, without taking anyone else’s property or forcing anyone else to participate? If communism is really about cooperation and community, why does everyone else have to be forced into it?

One of the worst things about Trump is that he’s ushering in more corporate welfare, cronyism, and socialism while parading it under the banner of capitalism, so we end up with all the failings of those ideologies but with a generation of young people blaming the market economy.

No worker produces “all of the value” if they did, they wouldn’t work for someone else. They would just produce the value on their own. And of course minimum wage workers need to get their skills up. People with marketable skills don’t make the minimum wage. If this offends you, you have no business talking about economics. This isn’t about your feelings.
Replying to @ComicDaveSmith
Isn't that the episode where you talk about how corporations, CEOs and shareholders, aren't ripping off their workers and absorbing the majority of the profits? Where you talk about how a minimum wage worker isn't producing all the value and they just need to get their skills up in order to get a real job and make more money?

“Poverty is the cause of crime.” Don’t you realise how insulting that is to the generations of working-class people who lived below the poverty line but who never stole a bean in their entire lives?

What Zoomers are seeing is very real. We live in an inflationary time. The problem is that the solutions they demand are even more inflationary. Downward social mobility will be inevitable as a result if we don't enact antiinflationary policies.
Replying to @InezFeltscher
Yeah tbh I think my gen in particular has some dumb expectations but I am also sick of the brand of supposedly conservative thought that tells people to happily accept downward social mobility.

It's extraordinary how fact free people's positions on grocery prices are. They just want certain things to be true, and get really mad if you point out they're not.
The weirdest thing about the "you can cook food at home cheaply" discourse is that people ***don't want it to be true.*** They're not merely incredulous. They are livid. And if you break down the meal and show them the prices, they get even angrier.
