We've been busy working and improving upon a great tool that encourages authentic learning and excited to see where this goes. Go @terrycrawfordjr and @Cerenz!
A high school educator walks into a room full of higher ed faculty... Presenting at @teachprof conference w/ @InitialView on AI, oral assessment, and student thinking. Caltech launched Viva in admissions. @ea_ctl brought it to the classroom.
Apparently we're onto something.
Excited for the VIVA mention here. As AI enters the admissions process, our question: how can we use it to elevate student voice and authenticity, and widen access? latimes.com/california/story…

“If I make this choice and I do not get into the college(s) that I am hoping to, will I still be glad I made it?” #lifeisnotatest #itsaconversation #authenticvoices
Students often wonder what they "should" do to be competitive college applicants. My latest Forbes piece tries to recenter the answer on well-being:

"As it stands right now, our systems don’t accomplish either of those goals. We don’t fully lean into AI and teach how to best use it, and we don’t fully prohibit it to keep it from interfering with exercises in critical thinking. We’re at an awkward middle ground where nobody knows what to do, where very few people in power even understand that something is wrong." #lifeisnotatest #itsaconversation #reassesshowtoassess #authenticity #ChatGPT
Opinion: When we want students to learn how to think, assignments become essentially useless once AI gets involved, writes Owen Kichizo Terry. chroni.cl/3Bwxz4M

Always grateful for the shout-out but even more grateful to be experimenting with education innovators who see these generational changes not as obstacles but as opportunities.
Another good one here from @Clark2College on "2023 Admissions Predictions...and Hopes" including an @InitialView shoutout, which I too am excited about for a variety of reasons. In conclusion, always read Rick. sites.gatech.edu/admission-b…

Had a great morning with Terry and @InitialView exploring the early implications of ChatGPT in the classroom and beyond. It’s an exciting time to be in education as we consider the possibilities and pathways ahead!
Huge thanks to @Cerenz for joining us for the discussion and sharing all of the innovative ways that @DragonsofSG is already using ChatGPT in the classroom. Great to hear his optimistic take on how this provides educators (and admissions officers) with a chance to reevaluate. . .
