In May 2019, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced a plan to close and repurpose the city jail, following a years-long campaign by local abolitionists pressured her to do so. However, the city's 2020 budget proposal included $18 million for the facility. scalawagmagazine.org/2020/06…

and it’s not just me saying it, everybody’s saying it (the articles in this thread were published as far back as 2018, and detail Keisha’s bullshit from as early as 2016)
We heard Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Atlanta mayor who originally championed Cop City, is running for governor of Georgia. Her list of offenses extends far beyond the police training facility and these evergreen piece highlight a few 🧵 scalawagmagazine.org/2019/05…

People weren’t paying attention to the cop city shit at its inception, so many prolly don’t even know KLBs role in kicking that off and giving the alley oop to Andre Bc when people they trust are in office, they stop paying attention. they tellin ppl who were aware to shut up rn
Keisha Lance Bottoms started the militarized cop city project after we were protesting against Black bodies being brutalized by police departments so I’m extremely unmoved by the representational politics of her win

Today I accepted a plea and was sentenced for my Emory University Palestine protest arrest. I'm asking you to provide my pro bono attorney with some donations in gratitude for her support over the last 2.5 years. Please donate and share! Thank you! gofund.me/bc6a142c4

Here's how exactly Telegram provides user data to U.S. authorities. A letter recently filed in court shows how Telegram transfers that data, such as IP address and phone number. More: 404media.co/heres-what-teleg…

This piece is part of Joel Elliot’s ongoing investigative work on the corruption related to APD in general, and its police training program in particular, chronicling the afterlife of Cop City’s construction and operations scalawagmagazine.org/2026/09…

Say it with me folks - every camera is a cop. Yours. Mine. A journo's. (Yes, no matter what take they give while reporting.) Every. One. These folks don't give a fuck about your freedom, don't let them steer you into cop behavior. You can't be for the pigs and for the people.
Y'all, this is performative af, also, don't do this

New: USPS is to put cameras in its trucks that continuously record. To gather data on roads, signage, and to improve "community safety," the agency tells me. The cameras are marketed to capture passing license plates too, but don't run ALPR software 404media.co/usps-to-put-came…

NEW (& no paywall): One of Flock's biggest selling points is its private search network—but how does it actually work? How does an ordinary city end up sharing its data with, say, 2,000+ other agencies? I FOIA'ed Flock customers from around the country to find out. Link in reply

It has become a common occurrence in Metro Atlanta. 😁 NoALPRs.com deflock.org
Driving to work this AM through a small, rural town in Massachusetts, where @waze (🙌🏼) always alerts me about the flock camera in the historic center. Someone must’ve put the sign up last night– – and I had to drive by again to make sure I’d seen it correctly. I love that the masses are rebelling. It’s a small step like this that gives people the courage to begin to speak out while educating those who are unaware. #DeFlock More info @therealDeFlock
