Borr Drilling rig sinks off Gabon, one person dead and four missing
Oct 25 (Reuters) - Borr Drilling's (BORR.N), opens new tab Prospector 5 rig sank late on Saturday off the coast of Mayumba, Gabon, killing one employee and leaving four others missing among the 115 people on board, three sources familiar with the matter said on Sunday.
An Indian national, one of the five initially unaccounted for, has been found dead. The remaining four missing include three Gabonese nationals and one other expatriate, the sources said.
The Misinformation Monitor newsletter rounds up international misinformation narratives, with a "Real or Fake?" quiz in every edition. Sign up here.
The government has not confirmed the death, instead saying that five people remain missing and that search efforts were ongoing.
"Preliminary information indicates that the rig experienced a punch-through event during preload activities, resulting in loss of stability and the subsequent sinking of the rig," the offshore drilling contractor said.
The Prospector 5 oil and gas rig, owned and operated by Borr, is contracted to support BW Energy's (BWE.OL), opens new tab drilling operations off Gabon. The rig had not yet begun drilling.
Prospector 5 is located at the Dussafu Marin permit, a licence off the Gabon coast. BW Energy holds a 73.5% working interest in the licence, with Panoro Energy holding 17.5%.
Gabon's Ministry of Petroleum and Gas said it had activated a crisis unit and ordered the navy to reinforce search and rescue operations at sea. The ministry also ordered a technical investigation, Petroleum and Gas Minister Clotaire Kondja said in a statement.
The crisis unit brings together the ministry, the navy, state oil company Gabon Oil, BW Energy and Borr Drilling, Kondja said.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. (2040 GMT) on Saturday in the Dussafu Marin permit area near the Mabomont production facility, the ministry said.
"We are deeply concerned for those who remain unaccounted for and everyone affected by this incident," said Borr Drilling Chief Executive Bruno Morand.
"Our immediate priority is supporting the ongoing search and rescue efforts and the welfare of all personnel involved."
Panoro Energy (PENR.OL), opens new tab said production had been halted, adding that there were no reports of damage or accidental discharges.
No discharge of harmful substances has been observed, the ministry said, adding that pollution-response resources remained deployed to protect the coastline and nearby Mayumba National Park.

PANGERAN WILLIAM MASUK STUDIO TANPA DIDUGA, REAKSI PENONTON LANGSUNG KAYAK LIHAT PLOT TWIST FILM. 😭👑
Di acara The Graham Norton Show, kemunculan William disambut suara kaget dan tepuk tangan meriah.
Hannah Waddingham bahkan terlihat memberi hormat dengan curtsy.
Menariknya, William hadir bersama sejumlah figur publik untuk membicarakan Earthshot Prize, inisiatif yang mendorong inovasi lingkungan.
Tapi kolom komentarnya justru terbagi dua.
Gue melihat satu hal: monarki Inggris masih punya daya tarik luar biasa, sekaligus terus memancing perdebatan soal hak istimewa.
KARISMANYA BOLEH DIPERDEBATKAN, TAPI REAKSI PENONTON MALAM ITU SUSAH DIABAIKAN. 💀

Jordan Belfort finally explained what “Sell me this pen” really tests, and most salespeople fail it in 1 sentence.
The moment they hear the line, they start pitching. The pen is great, it writes upside down, it’s the best value for the money. To Belfort, that’s the clearest sign someone doesn’t understand selling.
The right answer doesn’t mention the pen at all, at least not at first.
A fan in the audience asks Belfort to sell the pen. He jokes that no one has ever asked him that before, then explains what the test is really for: before you pitch anything, you ask questions. How long have you been in the market for a pen? What have you used before? Is it for business or personal? How much do you usually spend?
Pitching without asking, Belfort says, tells the buyer you don’t give a shit about them. You’re just ramming the product down their throat.
The questions also tell Belfort who to walk away from. If someone says they’re not looking for a pen, he says “Great, have a nice day” and moves on. To him, the biggest rookie mistake is trying to sell to everybody.
Only then does Belfort pitch: “Based on what you said to me, this pen is perfect. Let me tell you why.” And the pen, he says, is just a stand-in for any product.
Rookies sell the pen. Pros sell what you just told them.
Be honest: would you have pitched the pen, or asked the first question?
