Why? Contemporary chronicler Hopton Haynes described a practical goal: help relieve the shortage of silver cash used in domestic trade. 👉The resulting law allowed guineas & half-guineas to be freely imported again & provided for separate gold-minting arrangements alongside silver. 👉Imports had been restricted because overvalued gold guineas could be exchanged for full-weight silver coins, encouraging traders to ship that silver out of England. 👉Gold & silver weren’t just investments on a chart. Here’s what Thursday’s watchouts delivered, including the evening reports! 🟡Jobless Claims: 194,000: 🔥Initial claims came in below CME/Econoday’s 200,000 forecast & fell 6,000 from the revised prior week. But continuing claims rose 25,000 to 1.728 million. Labor resilience & signs of difficulty finding work leave a mixed picture for rate expectations. 🟡Leading Economic Index: Unchanged 🔥September’s 0.0% beat CME/Econoday’s −0.2% forecast. August fell 0.1%, while July was revised upward. Steadier growth can help silver’s industrial outlook, but weaken the case for easier monetary policy. 🟡Kansas City Manufacturing: 11, Down From 14: 🔥Factories still reported expansion, but new orders slowed to 3 from 24 & the raw-material prices index rose to 70 from 68. Those details are headwinds for silver’s industrial outlook, although finished-product price pressure eased. 🔴Five-Year TIPS Auction: Softer Demand: 🔥The $26 billion sale cleared at a 2.367% real yield. Bid-to-cover was 2.41, the lowest since April 2025, & the yield came in slightly above the roughly 2.36% pre-auction level reported by Tipswatch. 🟢Broader Real-Yield Decline: Supportive: 🔥Separately, Tipswatch reported real & nominal yields falling that day. Lower real yields reduce the competition from interest-paying assets. That supportive backdrop doesn’t turn the auction itself into a strong result. 🔴Bank Reserves: Down $61.3 Billion: 🔥Wednesday-to-Wednesday reserves fell to $2.970 trillion, while Treasury’s cash account rose $59.3 billion. Fed assets fell only about $2.0 billion to $6.754 trillion. 🔥The reserve drain is a potential liquidity headwind.
