I have a column today in The Washington Post: “Why $11 a day represents extraordinary prosperity.”
washingtonpost.com/opinions/…
I summarize evidence of incredible growth in human prosperity over the last 30 years and how that prosperity has come, in fact, with slightly lower inequality at the world level and, since 2012, falling per capita carbon emissions. Hundreds of millions of families no longer live at the edge of subsistence.
The point about carbon emissions is interesting: population growth has driven all the increase in total emissions since 2012. Since world population will peak around 2055, the path to decarbonization will be easier than often assumed.
This is also why relying on what I think are the United Nations’ seriously flawed population projections is so damaging to good policy. If you feed the wrong population forecast into integrated assessment models of climate change, you will get the wrong policy implications. This is not about getting one Excel file wrong; this is about getting first-order decisions wrong.
More pointedly, the experience of the last two centuries teaches us a clear lesson: good economic policy, based on the rule of law, markets, property rights, limited government, sound fiscal and monetary policy, international economic cooperation, and attention to families, education, health, and housing, can serve the common good: broad prosperity, lower inequality, technological dynamism, and stewardship of the earth. If we also find a way to fix the fertility crisis so couples can have the children they hope for, the possibilities for what we can achieve over the next 100 years are unbounded.

"No job means no dignity" usually comes from people with great jobs. For everyone getting yelled at, underpaid, and pushed to the limit, dignity looks like being able to say no.

Our campaign is focused on the economic future of the district and Ohio. Bringing back and expanding industry and manufacturing, good paying jobs that can support a family.
Promises Ohio Democrats and Republicans have made for decades but failed to deliver. We need change. As an Independent, I'll bring change and new ideas to Congress.

The effort to keep independent candidates out is real.
Don't accept this.
Statement on yesterday’s #IA01 debate announcement:
Our campaign was the first independent campaign in modern state history to meet the gold standard debate requirements set by @IowaPress. We promptly accepted their debate invitation in August, while @millermeeks and @BohannanIowa declined to even respond. Our campaign reached out directly to the Miller-Meeks and Bohannan campaigns multiple times in August, in an effort to arrange a debate. We were also not given the courtesy of a response.
Now, suddenly, they have announced they will debate each other, only, on @kwqcnews & @KCRG in October, breaking with decades of tradition of the Iowa Press and PBS.
We found about this only after it was publicly announced. We were not contacted by the networks nor did either campaign respond to our repeated inquiries.
Our campaign has sent a letter to KWQC requesting inclusion and additional information including their official, predetermined debate criteria. At this time, we choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and it is my expectation that professionalism and journalistic integrity will prevail here. The voters of #IA01 deserve to hear from all three candidates on the ballot this fall, and we owe them an honest and complete representation of their options.
It is clear that the two parties coordinated behind the scenes to shop this debate around, in an effort to exclude a candidate that qualified for both the ballot and the debate in historic fashion, and represents the largest voting bloc in the district. For all the vitriol spewed between the parties, see how quickly they are able to work together to maintain the status quo and silence independent voices. When people talk about a "uniparty," this is what they mean.
Ultimately this situation is a perfect illustration of the reality of politics today. The parties feel that this is their seat, their government - not ours. I understand that many accept this, some may even approve of it, but this is not democracy. It’s not government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Endorsement!
I'm excited to announce our Independent campaign for Congress in the 4th against Jim Jordan has officially been endorsed by UAW Region 2B Ohio State CAP Council.
This is big. Our campaign is about economic growth, about realizing Ohio's potential to be a manufacturing and industrial powerhouse once again. It's about reclaiming prosperity and creating the good jobs that support families.

I'm Tracey Tackett, the Independent running against Jim Jordan in Ohio's 4th.
Here in the 20th most Republican district in the country, we're building a cross-partisan coalition that can WIN.
No district should be "safe" for any party, democracy demands choice.

There was a time when they said all politics was local. Now all politics is national, even if you really just want to fix schools and fill potholes. I’m running to bring the local focus back to our politics, because that’s where we live, work, and raise our families.
