A couple of weeks ago I tried doing anime compositing on Davinci Resolve, and now I tried to apply it to an actual animation (with Sonic of course)
Background from "Is the order a rabbit? BLOOM", I just looked for one cause I didn't want to paint it myself lol

Straight up wrong. Sonic X shows you who Sonic is throughout the entire run, rather than TELL. It's the complete opposite You bring up IDW Sonic, yet that Sonic says speeches that ripped right out his wiki description. IDW'S understanding of Sonic's freedom is also insanely warped. IDW desperately wants people to 'join him' but doesn't comprehend that Sonic also has a chaotic nature to himself that is nuanced. It doesn't even feel like Sonic. It feels more like Naruto than anything else. Many people don't care how much something might 'try to evolve Sonic'. If it gets the fundamentals wrong, then it's not good.
And besides, IDW's chase for making Sonic more 'complicated' and 'relatable' if anything makes him have less nuance in his character. When did Sonic go around desperately bringing mercy to his foes? When did he start labelling himself as the 'good guy?'
When I mean by 'show' I refer to the slice of life moments people like to dunk on in season 1. More than action, more than adventure, heck even more than the idea of freedom, Sonic first and foremost important value is about what is means to live.
Sonic X season 1 shows us the down moments like when he showed Helen the sights she wanted to see. When he went for the acquatic sea trip with Amy and the rest, but feared for his life. His race against Sam. In Sonic X, Sonic would involve himself in any situation, no matter how inconsequential or big it was. Some situations he didn't like at all, like the sea trip.
Sonic X throughout its run defined the good and bad of life. And Sonic, the main character is the character that embraced that.
Season 3 is a great final point for X because Dark Oak is the force that kinda craps on everything Sonic and friends have built up since season 1. He's nihilistic, believes the universe has no hope due to the torment all living beings goes through, and is an astounding foil to Sonic, especially with how cruel Dark Oak and his forces are. To say Sonic also wasn't pushed enough in Sonic X is silly. Dark Oak is one the most menacing villains in the entire franchise.

Some people have had the audacity to say X Sonic is boring, has no screentime, when it's further from the truth.
But one thing X Sonic did so well, is how they handled Sonic at moments like this. Realise how Sonic doesn't give a speech that basically describes himself 1:1 like it's ripped from Wikipedia?
Everything about his character is told through his actions, his little replies, his expression, his exchange with Dark Oak, and the ambience of the landscape. Even when Dark Oak believes his struggle to fight is inevitable, Sonic also encourages Dark Oak to 'keep going and fighting', despite them being enemies. This contrasts so hard with IDW, which make him a mouthy character that desperately wants to bring others to his side.
X Sonic translated/interpretated the Sonic IP better than every any other Sonic media, and imo its writing eclipsed many official Sonic games too.
