JUST IN: Lawyer Demands Immediate Release of Rilwan Olawale, Allegedly Arrested and Tortured Over WhatsApp Messages to Lagos INEC REC Nigerian lawyer Festus Ogun has demanded the immediate release of Rilwan Olawale, who he alleges was arrested and tortured by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), also known as the DSS, following WhatsApp messages sent to Lagos State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami. Ogun claims Olawale has been detained since October 25, 2026, for allegedly sending critical messages to the electoral official, insisting that demanding free and fair elections is not a crime. He has called for Olawale’s immediate release, an apology and substantial compensation, warning that legal action could follow over the alleged violation of his fundamental rights.
