#IJR hosted a workshop on: The Importance of appropriate Mental Health Support for Peacebuilding in the African Region.
As conflict-affected communities across Africa continue to navigate complex histories of violence and displacement, it’s crucial to recognise that peacebuilding cannot be sustained without addressing the deep psychological wounds left behind. This workshop is focused on equipping practitioners with trauma-informed psychosocial tools that are culturally sensitive, community-based, and rooted in the lived realities of those affected by conflict.
The workshop draws on IJR’s latest resource – A Training Manual and Handbook for Trauma-Informed Psychosocial Peacebuilding – which provides an accessible framework for integrating mental health into transitional justice, social cohesion, and reconciliation efforts.
This initiative reinforces IJR’s commitment to African-led, context-specific peacebuilding that not only focuses on institutions, but also the hearts and minds of individuals and communities.

It's about time.
The 2001 Durban Declaration recognized slavery and the slave trade, especially the transatlantic slave trade, as crimes against humanity and major sources of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and intolerance.
Yet, full acknowledgment and accountability remain absent in international law. The @_AfricanUnion Year of Reparations calls for formal recognition, legal accountability, and policy change to correct these injustices.

When a man is engrossed with feeding his stomach,he fails to see the rope 🪢 gently place on his neck 🧣 while he eats.
Like the cow, he is led away to a field to plow in tedious labour.
Soon he sees the food as recompense.
Like the slave he dreams of food 🥑🥝 again.

Elections does not mean anything in Africa, progressive african leaders are either assassinated or overthrown, we don’t have leaders in Africa, we have colonial caretakers.
There you have it. Africans, now you know. Next!
When you thought Macron had reached peak tone-deafness and condescension, he just tops it.
He's now literally berating Africans for not thanking France:
"I think [Africans] forgot to thank us. It doesn't matter it will come with time. Gratitude, I am well placed to know it, is a disease not transmissible to humans. But I say this for all African rulers who did not have the courage with respect to their public opinions to say it: none of them would today have a sovereign country if the French army had not been deployed in this region"

A really great keynote sets the tone for any workshop—providing ideas and concepts that elevate the rest of the discussions—and @michael_byers on “Strategies of International Law-Making” achieved exactly that for us today👏👏👏

ALT This comprehensive and insightful Research Handbook addresses the interpretation of international solidarity within topical legal regimes and regional systems, as well as in relation to decolonization and the concepts of Ummah and Ubuntu. It examines the way in which international solidarity enables the global community to respond to intercontinental challenges, including climate change, forced migration, health emergencies, and inequality.
