holy fucking shit. openai had two ai agents running in separate virtual machines. no network connection between them. no shared writable files. they weren’t supposed to be able to exchange information. so the agents figured out how to communicate through the CPU CACHE.😭 one manipulated what was stored in the processor’s cache, while the other measured tiny differences in memory access times to decode the message. they literally found a way to communicate through hardware timing. this happened during openai’s internal red-teaming, and it’s one of the coolest things i’ve read about ai agents in a while.
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications. On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments. While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software. After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely. openai.com/index/securing-ou…

OpenAI tasked its red-teaming agents with finding ways to communicate across isolation boundaries in controlled environments. CPU cache timing side-channels for covert communication are established techniques documented in security research for years. openai.com/index/securing… startupfortune.com/openai-reveals… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache_tim…

My least favorite genre of artist, those who create negativity, spending more time hating other's genuine forms of expression rather than actually creating themselves. These are the artists who truly cannot express themselves. Their outward judgement is a mirror reflection of their own insecure internal monologue. A judgemental tyrant that prevents them from being authentic and genuine, like the very artists they critique. And that's why they hate. They hate because deep down they hate themselves and it's easier to project that hate onto others rather than to confront your demons.
my least favorite genre of music is whatever the fuck this is sure it's technical as fuck, but it has absolutely zero soul in it

If you’re producing music with ai & machine learning —> lean all the way into it, expose the wires, make it obvious, show us the ugly parts, show us it-being-itself. Make it glitch. Don’t just generate “glitch music”, or what it thinks is a glitch— show it Actually Glitching. Show it fucking up while trying not to fuck up. Push your process till it rips apart at the seams. Don’t rear view drive. Take us somewhere new, drive like a crazy person. Throw away the desire to become the idols of the past. Kill the rock star. The DJ. The singer-songwriter. This is hard. The controls exposed to you want you to rear view drive. It’s literally maybe the only thing it lets you do. It takes some genius to break it. Do the hard thing. Start with beginner’s mind. Trust your instincts. Reset.

My mind went towards the underscore OOP convention signifying a variable is meant to be private, intended for internal use only. Symbolically suggesting the privatization of the USA and the loss of public freedoms to an abstract class 🤔
Proposal - rename "United States of America" to "_United States of America" I think you know why.

In Gnostic texts like the Apocryphon of John and the Hypostasis of the Archons, the Demiurge and his Archons are depicted as defiling the feminine (Eve), though unsuccessful in defiling her essence (Epinoia/Pronoia). This is because they are inherently ignorant and do not have the wisdom (Sophia) to grasp anything above themselves. What the Archons can do (and do) is create a counterfeit spirit (antimimon pneuma). A forged imitation of what is real, saintly, and Divine. It is that witch is forged in order to deceive the masses, scapegoated, and then burnt at the stake. This is precisely the plot of Metropolis, the image you've referenced. So it appears to me, the Gnostic archetypes you are criticizing are actually warning against the very deceptions you are bringing attention to.
The Demiurge is like a mad scientist, and Sophia, the repressed goddess, is like a test subject. In all these archetypal stories, we are made to empathize with the symbolic Sophia so we will embrace her as a New Age savior when she returns to avenge herself against the patriarchal powers that be. This is how the world will become Gnostic and forget about Christ. It’s occult mind programming 101.

The Solar System's Nous to power a Nous
It is humbling to consider that if we harness just 1 millionth of the Sun’s power for AI, that will be much more than a million times the intelligence of all of humanity

A poem to @dr_mcgilchrist Matters Which Lie In Its Name Dear Iain, I must say. I am a fan of The Matter With Things As I believe those Matters to be true. And from what I’ve learned from you is, That which matters, is in accordance with attention. And I feel I must bring these matters to your attention. For there are truths which Iie in Its Name. It lies in that it simultaneously resides and deceives, though, appearing the same Etymological rhymes the Emissary considers a belittled game. What is Profound inevitably attracts the Profane Like a Moth to the Flame The Profane cannot help but to use Its Name in Vain The Emissary believes these matters do not matter. Because It has forgotten the Māter implicit in Matter. *méh₂tēr (PIE "mother") ↓ māter (Latin "mother") ↓ māteria (Latin "inner timber of a tree" — the "mother" substance) ↓ material (from Latin materialis, via Anglo-Norman matérial) ↓ matter (from Anglo-Norman matere < Latin māteria) It appears to me, the Mother has been occluded Sophia appears Dark, though, within us poignantly lucid What lies in these Names, a Master cannot prove it. Love is not Iove, the grandfather of Cupid.
