November 1938, Germany: Nazis launch Kristallnacht, targetting Jewish businesses and terrorizing Jews in a campaign to drive them out of the country, shouting "Juden raus!” (“Jews out!”) November 2026, Philadelphia: Protesters plan to target six Jewish-owned restaurants “Must Go!” this Sunday -- the eve of Kristallnacht’s 88th anniversary. If you’re upset about the roast beef at Schlesinger’s or the mac and cheese at Mac Mart, Yelp is standing by.   If you’re upset about Israeli policy, protest at the Israeli embassy.   Schlesinger’s has a deli counter. It does not have a foreign ministry. Targeting Jewish-owned businesses and demanding they leave our city is antisemitic intimidation.  Doing it on the eve of Kristallnacht’s anniversary makes the message especially chilling. Thank you @PhillyMayor for standing with the Jewish community—and for making clear that we belong here.

Asking a dumb question - why is @elonmusk aligning himself with either political party? Is there any recent precendent among top industry CEOs? Feels like the definition of short-termism, just the thing he rails against, with risks obviously outweighing long term benefits to him and his businesses.

There's nothing quite like the magic of seeing your kid learn how to read and, in doing so, begin to understand the world around them by reading signs, flyers, bulletin boards, and anything else they can find. I'm experiencing this for the last time right now. What a gift

Advice for those doing sales or BD - blindly dropping a invite in someone's calendar is intrusive and unlikely to make a positive impression. If you've done the work to get an email address, try sending a short note explaining who you are and why you want to speak like a normal human.

I'm heartbroken to announce that Dolly Parton has died today. I loved Dolly a lot; not in the way you love a celebrity. In the way you love someone who showed you the kind of person it's possible to be. I think a lot about her "Coat of Many Colors." Her mother sewed her a coat out of rags and, as she stitched, told her about Joseph and his coat. Dolly went to school feeling like a Bible hero. The other children laughed at her. She never forgot what it feels like to be mocked for the thing you were told was sacred, and she spent her whole life refusing to let anyone else feel small. It always felt like such a relatable story. And that's not the only thing that made her relatable. The man who made her a global star was Sandy Gallin, a Jewish kid from Brooklyn. He convinced her to record "Here You Come Again," written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. He talked her into building Dollywood. They shared an apartment in New York. When he died, she said nobody could understand how the Christian Southern girl and the New York Jewish boy had so much in common. She showed me that people can overcome seemingly insurmountable differences by finding commonality. A Baptist girl from the Smoky Mountains who never stopped believing people from different worlds could love each other. That's who we lost today. Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for everything. 💔

In Buddhism we understand that every action comes with a consequence. Due to my decision to stand up for my Jewish friends I am losing a few people from my life. Today I parted company with Tony Pontius who has run my record label BGP for a number of years. I wanted to release 'We Will Dance Again' but he was unequivocal and said 'I want nothing to do with this song' and I responded 'ok, we are done'. When someone is gutless it really does not hurt to say goodbye. My faith in humanity will not diminish and the truth will always win. I will release it!

These refs are abhorrent. At least three flagrant fouls on the Spurs uncalled the last two games. Wemby should be suspended in game 5 and now game 6 (if it happens)

Nothing but respect for what @bariweiss accomplished at @TheFP but deeply troubled and concerned about what’s happening at @60Minutes. 60 Minutes is an American treasure that should be protected and preserved.

Allow me to translate this letter from eBay for those who don’t speak legalese: Ryan, We got your unsolicited offer to buy eBay for $125/share (half cash, half stock) supported by your 5% economic interest in eBay. Our board, backed by the usual crew of bankers and lawyers who get paid either way, “thoroughly reviewed” it. We’re rejecting it. Not because the math doesn’t work. Not because the highly confident letter from TD Securities for up to $20B on top of your $9B+ cash pile is fake. None of that. We’re rejecting it because your entire approach to running a company is an existential threat to how we like to operate here. Here are the reasons we feel this way, and the things we considered before paying consultants to write this: 1) We’d rather keep milking eBay as a “standalone” cash cow than let you turn it into something bigger and better. 2) Sure, you’ve got real financing lined up and you “know people” with deep pockets, but we’re going to call it “uncertain” anyway so we don’t have to engage. 3) Your plan would actually force real long-term growth and profitability changes we’d rather not be held accountable for. 4) The debt we pretended you can’t even obtain, the operational integration and focus on seller satisfaction, and most importantly, putting someone like you in charge of the combined entity all sound like a nightmare for our current leadership structure because all of us would have zero job security. 5) The valuation math only looks bad if you ignore the 46% premium you’re offering our shareholders and the upside from fixing eBay the way you fixed GameStop, which we are choosing to do and hoping nobody notices. 6) And I hope we buried the lede far enough here: Your governance and executive incentives are completely incompatible with ours. You and your board take zero cash, no salary, no bonuses, no golden parachutes. You buy shares with your own money and only get paid if shareholders win. We, on the other hand, like our nice, reliable annual payouts regardless of whether the stock is flat or the company is just coasting. We’re not about to hand over our golden goose to a guy who eats only what he kills. Look, eBay is “strong” and “resilient” in the way every entrenched public company says it is while handing out eight-figure checks and perks to the C-suite. We’ve done the usual incremental stuff: tweaked the marketplace a bit, returned some capital, and we’d like to keep doing that without any cowboy from GameStop coming in and demanding actual skin-in-the-game accountability. Can you just leave us alone? Our team remains focused on protecting the current regime and delivering “value”… mostly to ourselves and our consultants. Thanks, but no thanks, Paul S. Pressler

Truth
People bailing on crypto now never believed they just liked it because other people liked it. They’re now chasing the next shiny object. If you actually believe in human empowerment and transparent markets bringing more freedom to the world you know we are winning and now is the absolute best time to dig deep and continue working on what you believe in.
