Today's column: Why the high school sports media landscape changed, and what all parties can do next
Including some tips for content creators, who are -- from what I can tell -- not understanding what all the fuss is about

Fun fact: no one in the HighSchoolOT girls flag football statewide top 25 rankings has a loss to an in-state team.
Four new teams this week in the rankings presented by State Employees Credit Union. The season ends midweek, playoffs on Saturday!
The gap between #6 to #23 used to be huge
Not this year. That’s why you see so much movement in that cluster of teams
One week left in the regular season!
The HighSchoolOT football rankings were updated on Sunday. Garner has returned to the Statewide Top 25 after its big win over Clayton. Middle Creek, which lost to Garner earlier this year, was also pulled up into the Top 25.

Everyone knows @PDS_ChargersFB's @ChadGrier_ has coached many very talented wide receivers. @Braylon_Clark3 is the latest. But Grier is as impressed by his work ethic as by his talent. Here's a feature from @JRWalk22: highschoolot.com/news/footba…

Midway is back on the doorstep of the promised land.
After a swift 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) of fifth-seeded Louisburg in the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A girls volleyball playoffs on Saturday, the Raiders are back to the regional final.
Midway has now reached the regional final in four of the last five seasons: 2022, 2023, last year, and now this year. The Raiders are still looking for their first trip back to the state championship since 2001.
More coverage -- including a photo gallery and highlights -- coming to HighSchoolOT
Forgot to tweet that I went to Midway tonight

I can’t overstate how amazing the David W. Craft Gymnasium is!
Here at Hickory where the defending NCHSAA 5A volleyball state champions welcome Jesse Carson for a fourth round playoff showdown.
The winner will face West Henderson for the 5A west title on Tuesday!
One day I'll have to see if I can't compile some HighSchoolOT Game of the Week records
Got a feeling that Southern Durham's 57 yards allowed vs Hillside last night might be the record for fewest surrendered by a defense.
Entering today, there were 99 different NCHSAA schools who have had a state champion in either singles or doubles.
Three more added to the list today:
South Caldwell
South Point
North Buncombe
I suggest a spreadsheet!
To pull a @JMBpreps …I’m at Watauga in Boone…I’d have to think of how many high schools I’ve been to but it’d take awhile haha

No senior wants to graduate having lost to a rival all four years.
Even though Damien Hayes hasn't been at Southern Durham until this season, he delivered under the bright lights of Durham County Stadium on behalf of other Spartans.
With 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns, Hayes spearheaded Southern Durham's 25-0 romp over Hillside to win the Tobacco Road Conference title (and the HighSchoolOT Game of the Week).
Hillside was held to just 57 yards for the contest thanks to a Spartans defense led by Ja'Don Lillie, who was the Vector Security Defensive Player of the Game.
