Today is the publication day for the UK edition of Goodbye Eastern Europe. I'm enormously proud to be published by @OneworldNews, and truly grateful for all the hard work they put into turning a rough manuscript into a gorgeous physical object.
I’ve got a new piece in The Economist today - a profile of Robert Zubrin, “the man who inspired Elon Musk to shoot for Mars.” Includes Martian urbanism, future sports, and the shifting fortunes of betting on an interplanetary future.

I’ve got a new piece up in @chronicle, a review of a very fun new history of the university. Read it here: chronicle.com/article/how-th…
I’m back in the long read today, with a piece about the wonderful and period of the deep ocean. Give it a read here: theguardian.com/news/2026/ju…
Thanks so much Bogna! I’m excited to bring this project to Vienna this winter. Very curious to read more about forest theory and secrecy - I’m fascinated by all the permutations of ketman.
I love this project by @JMikanowski , oriented around one of my favorite ideas from one of my favorite books, and so resonant with my work on the dark forest theory, secrecy, and strategies of obfuscation & espionage. 🥰
Tirana friends! Join me tomorrow at Vila 31, where I will be in conversation with the great Ukrainian artist Stanislava Pinchuk about vampirism, communist legacies and much more.

We're thrilled to present to you ISSUE 4 OF TURKOSLAVIA! This issue features almost as many languages as there are pieces: six poetry and three prose. SINK YOUR TEETH—!

So exciting to see Goodbye Eastern Europe published in Czech - especially since @hostbrno did such a wonderful job with the illustrations and graphic design.
Americký novinář s polskými kořeny @JMikanowski dal dohromady knihu, která zachycuje dějiny a mýty území, které vlastně nikdy neexistovalo a přesto představuje jednu myšlenku. Autorovu prvotinu česky vydalo nakladatelství @hostbrno 🔴 hostbrno.cz/sbohem-vychodni-… #planetaknih
For @ChronicleReview, I reviewed How the New World Became Old, Caroline Winterer's fascinating new book on 19th Century America's discovery of deep time: chronicle.com/article/scratc…
I don’t know why or how, but the kindle edition of Goodbye, Eastern Europe is now just $2 (and 99p in the UK) - less than a cup of coffee!
Replying to @PantheonBooks

For @TheTLS, I reviewed the biography of a fascinating figure from the last days of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
'She does a Cossack dance for Frederick the Great and gets gardening advice from Joseph II.'

I've got an essay in the new issue of The Point. It's about dentist grandmothers, torture, prison and the odd places memory comes to rest in the body (with plenty on Eastern Europe, of course). Read here: thepointmag.com/examined-lif…

Join us this Thursday for a lecture by Jacob Mikanowski, the author of the bestseller "Goodbye, Eastern Europe"!
