Adams fled on a scooter. Police reported that he collided with a street fixture, sustaining fatal injuries. However, six witnesses interviewed by Mission Local disputed the police account. Three described a gray sedan pursuing Adams, cutting across his path and blocking his escape. A man who emerged from the vehicle, possibly an undercover officer, allegedly tackled Adams into the metal pole of a Muni bus shelter. One witness described a football-style tackle. Adams struck his head and lay bleeding on the pavement. KRON4 separately interviewed witnesses who described police using physical force before Adams struck the structure. Officers provided first aid, and paramedics transported Adams to a hospital, where he died. Police have not disclosed the underlying warrant, identified the pursuing personnel or confirmed whether the gray sedan was an unmarked police vehicle.
