I was crying over my lost scholarship when someone walked in asking me to help her get one.
That morning.
I had just lost a PhD scholarship abroad by the narrowest margin.
I returned to my office and broke down in tears.
I had imagined that opportunity a thousand times.
The new country. The research.
The future I thought was finally unfolding.
Then came a knock.
An undergraduate student walked in.
She needed a recommendation letter for a scholarship she was pursuing.
I stared at her for a moment.
How was I supposed to help someone chase a dream when mine had just slipped through my fingers?
But I wiped my tears, forced a smile, and listened to her story.
Then I sat down and wrote her letter.
I gave it my best.
Every word carried the sincerity she deserved, even though my own heart was hurting.
Two weeks later, she called.
She had won the scholarship!
I congratulated her, then wept again.
This time, my tears carried both joy for her and grief for myself.
Life is strange.
Sometimes, you help someone reach the destination you desperately wanted for yourself.
And you do it while still finding the strength to heal.
Well, life happens. I'm still learning.

Back in 2010 when I was in SS1, my close friend moved to the US. His dad literally sold one of their properties in Ikeja to fund his move. He was the kindest guyeveryone loved him.
Fast forward to 2026. He has completely blocked his entire family on WhatsApp and won't answer their calls.
Yesterday, his dad called me asking if I've heard from him, begging me to persuade him to "settle down and marry."
Meanwhile, I'm looking at his WhatsApp status right now: he’s getting married to a man in the US next month.
The family has no idea. His dad is waiting on my reply.
What on earth do I even tell the old man?

A woman returned from her village a few months ago with a swollen leg. In Igbo, they call it Acha-ere.
Her husband took her to church so the church members could pray for her. Fortunately, there was a medical doctor in the church who examined her and advised them to take her to the hospital for proper treatment.
They took her to the hospital, and she was admitted.
Then, someone from her village called and told her that she needed to return home and go back to the particular place where she had stepped on something before her leg became swollen.
But her husband was a devout Christian who didn't believe in such things. He insisted that she remain in the hospital and continue her treatment.
The woman, however, had spent months in the hospital without any improvement. She was tired and desperate to get better.
So, she called her sister and asked her to help sneak her out of the hospital so she could return to the village.
Her husband was against the idea, but the woman felt she had to try something else.
Within one week of receiving treatment in the village, she reportedly started getting better.
Now the husband said she shouldn't come back to his house, she should remain in the village.

There are men and women who will remain loyal to you after you support them through their journey, and there are those who will abandon you once they get to where they want to be.
The problem is that you can’t always tell which kind of person you’re dealing with at the beginning.
Building with someone is a high risk investment, if you ask me, I will say the most risky. You can invest your time, money, love, and energy into someone, believing you’re building a future together, only to discover that you were part of their journey, not part of their destination.
There are no guarantees when it comes to human beings. Absolutely none.

A man woke up at 2:13 a.m. and found a woman standing beside his bed, staring at him.
The terrifying part? He lived alone, and all his doors were locked.
Daniel, a 29-year-old accountant in Ohio, had lived in the same apartment for eight months. Nothing unusual had happened there before that Tuesday night.
He woke up with the uncomfortable feeling that someone was watching him.
When he opened his eyes, a woman stood near his dresser.
She wore a gray hoodie, and her face was hidden in the darkness.
Daniel froze. Then he reached for his bedside lamp.
The room was empty.
He told himself it had been a nightmare. He checked the front door, the windows, and even the bathroom before returning to bed.
By morning, he had almost convinced himself that nothing had happened.
Then his phone buzzed.
An unknown number had sent him a photograph.
It showed Daniel sleeping in his bed, taken from somewhere near the foot of the mattress.
His hands started shaking.
Underneath the photograph was a message:
“You forgot to check under the bed.”
Daniel immediately called the police.
Officers searched the apartment but found nobody. There were no signs of forced entry, and every window was locked.
He spent that night at his older brother’s house.
The next afternoon, his landlord called with some disturbing news.
A maintenance worker had discovered a loose panel beneath Daniel’s bedroom closet.
Behind it was a narrow service space connected to the building’s old plumbing system.
It was dark, cramped, and large enough for someone to crawl through.
Daniel asked the landlord one question:
“Who else knows about this space?”
The landlord promised to investigate.
That evening, Daniel received another message from the same unknown number.
This time, there was no photograph.
Just six words.
“You should have stayed at home.”
And what detectives discovered next made him even more afraid of returning to his apartment.

Just renewed my X subscription, and honestly, I see it as an investment, not a waste of money.
The results I want may not have come yet, but that doesn't mean my efforts are wasted.
I'll keep learning, keep showing up, keep improving and keep pushing.
One day, I'll look back at this phase of my journey and be glad I didn't give up.

For about 3 hours on our flight, the guy next to me kept sleeping on my shoulder and I was getting really annoyed.
I had moved his head off my shoulder at least four times when a woman suddenly walked up to our seats.
She looked at me, then at him, and said loudly, “So this is the woman you told me you were traveling with for work?”
The man woke up immediately.
“Babe, please. Not here,” he whispered.
She laughed bitterly. “Not here? You told me you were flying alone. I even drove you to the airport this morning!”
People around us started turning their heads.
I was completely confused.
“Ma’am, I’ve never met your husband in my life. I only found out he was married five minutes ago.”
She pointed at my shoulder.
“Then why has my husband been sleeping on you like you’re his wife?”
I picked up my handbag and moved to the empty seat across the aisle.
“Please take your husband. I didn't buy a plane ticket to become part of your marriage.”
A few passengers laughed.
Her husband looked embarrassed, but his wife wasn't finished.

I attended my cousin’s wedding, and the groom’s mother stood up during the reception and announced that she had spent $80,000 on her son’s wedding, so nobody should ever accuse her of not supporting the marriage.
Everyone clapped until the bride’s grandmother picked up the microphone.
She smiled and said, “That’s wonderful, dear. Now tell them who paid the $25,000 deposit on the house you promised the couple.”
The room went silent.
The groom looked at his mother.
“What deposit?”
His mother tried to laugh it off, but Grandma pulled an envelope from her handbag.
“I have the receipts, the bank transfers, and the messages where you asked the bride’s family for money.”
Then she turned toward the bride and asked, “Sweetheart, did he ever tell you what happened to the money your father gave him?”

My neighbour complained that I parked too close to his gate, so I started leaving more space whenever I came home.
A week later, he knocked on my door and asked why I had stopped parking near his house
I thought he was joking.
He explained that his elderly mother had been visiting every evening, and she felt safer walking from my car to their front door because the street was poorly lit
I had no idea
The man who complained about my parking was the same man who had quietly been looking out for my car whenever I travelled
We had spent weeks irritating each other over a problem neither of us fully understood.

A woman in our church asked for ₦50,000 to pay her daughter's school fees. The pastor told her to keep praying and trust God to provide.
She came out of his office looking worried.
A few days later, a wealthy member mentioned that he needed help with his business. Before the service ended, the pastor had already arranged a meeting with two people who could assist him.
The woman was sitting a few rows behind me when the announcement was made. She clapped with everyone else.
After the service, I saw her near the gate with another woman.
“Have they said anything about my daughter's school fees?” she asked.
The woman shook her head. They stood there for a moment before going their separate ways.

For six years, my husband told everyone I was the reason his relationship with his daughter had fallen apart.
His mother called me jealous. His sisters said I had entered his life and tried to erase his first family.
Even my own mother advised me to stop being difficult and accept that a man would always have a special place in his heart for his first child.
Then, last month, my 19-year-old stepdaughter showed up at my house with a folder of old emails.
“I’m sorry it took me this long to find out what really happened,” she said.
I had no idea what she meant.
My name is Claire Bennett. I’m 38, and I’ve been married to Michael for six years.
When we met, he was divorced and had a 13-year-old daughter named Olivia. He told me his marriage had ended because his ex-wife had become controlling and had gradually turned their daughter against him.
I believed him.
I had no reason not to.
Michael was charming, hardworking, and seemed genuinely heartbroken about the distance between him and his daughter.
He showed me photographs of them at the beach, at birthday parties, and sitting together at a baseball game.
He told me he used to be the first person Olivia called whenever something happened at school.
Then, according to him, her mother began making visitation difficult.
“She tells Olivia I’m unreliable,” he said one evening. “I keep trying, but her mother makes everything a fight.”
I felt sorry for him.
When we married, I encouraged him to keep reaching out to his daughter. I even helped him choose birthday presents and reminded him to call her before important school events.
But Olivia rarely responded.
Sometimes she returned his calls days later. Other times, she sent short messages that barely acknowledged his efforts.
Michael always looked devastated afterward.
“See what I’m dealing with?” he would say.
I tried to build a relationship with her myself, but she was distant whenever she visited our home.
She answered my questions politely, ate dinner, and spent most of the evening looking at her phone.
Once, I bought her a winter coat because Michael mentioned that she needed one.
She thanked me without smiling and left it behind when her mother came to collect her.
I was hurt, but I told myself she was a teenager struggling with her parents’ divorce.
Then things became worse.
When Olivia turned sixteen, she stopped visiting altogether.
Michael blamed her mother.
His family blamed me.
His older sister once told me at Thanksgiving, “You should have stayed out of their relationship. Some women can’t stand seeing a man love a child that isn’t theirs.”
I was so embarrassed that I went into the bathroom and cried.
When I confronted Michael later, he hugged me and said his family didn’t understand how hard he had tried.
“I’ve done everything for that girl,” he insisted. “One day, she’ll realize who was really there for her.”
For years, I defended him.
I defended him when his daughter didn’t attend our anniversary party. I defended him when his mother accused me of driving a wedge between father and child. I defended him when relatives suggested that Olivia had become distant because I was jealous of their bond.
Then, six weeks ago, Michael received an invitation to Olivia’s college graduation.
He read it twice before putting it on the kitchen counter.
“She probably only sent this because her mother told her to,” he said.
I encouraged him to attend anyway.
He refused.
“She hasn’t wanted me in her life for years. I’m not going to beg anymore.”
Three days later, Olivia arrived at our front door.
She was nineteen now, taller than I remembered, with tears in her eyes and a manila folder clutched against her chest.
She asked whether her father was home.
When I said he was at work, she looked relieved.
Then she sat at my kitchen table and said, “There’s something you need to know about why Dad stopped seeing me.”
She opened the folder.

A man refused to be his best friend's best man, then threatened not to attend the wedding when his friend kept asking.
At first, the account sounded like somebody making another person's wedding about himself. Then I read his explanation.
His parents had spent their marriage and divorce hurting each other. His mother went on to marry repeatedly, making him take part in ceremonies he hated. His friend knew that history.
I don't think he had to accept the role. I do think threatening to withdraw from the wedding was unfair to a friend whose relationship he actually supported.
He later apologised for that threat. He still declined to be best man, offered an experienced alternative, and they made up.
That is the part I liked. He corrected how he treated his friend without making a promise he knew he could not keep. An apology does not always require changing your answer.

My girlfriend became so ashamed of her own body that she started showering before I could touch her, and the worst part is that I was the person who made her feel that way.
We had been together for almost three years when I first noticed an unusual odor after sex. I ignored it initially because I assumed it was a normal bodily change. But when it kept happening, I finally told her that something seemed different.
She didn’t argue with me. The following morning, she booked an appointment with her gynecologist, underwent an examination, and had vaginal swabs and STI testing. Her results were negative for the STIs tested, but she was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV), a condition involving an imbalance in the bacteria normally present in the vagina.
She took the prescribed antibiotics and completed the treatment.
For our next few encounters, everything seemed fine. Then the odor returned.
She contacted her doctor again because she was worried the infection had come back. Her gynecologist explained that BV can recur and that recurring symptoms need proper reassessment rather than repeated treatment based on guesswork.
My girlfriend was devastated. She started asking whether she wasn’t cleaning herself properly. I told her that wasn’t what I meant, but I could see that she had started associating her body with something embarrassing.
Her doctor discussed other possible causes of vaginal odor, including trichomoniasis, yeast infections, and other vaginal conditions. She was examined and tested according to her symptoms, but there was no immediate explanation for every episode.
Then something happened that made the situation much worse.
My girlfriend was on her period and had spent hours helping me move into my new apartment. She was exhausted, sweating, and barely had the energy to eat. We were sitting on the sofa, fully clothed, when I noticed an unpleasant smell.
We weren’t having sex. I hadn’t touched her intimately.
I made the mistake of asking whether she had noticed the smell again.
She immediately got up and went into the bathroom. I could hear the shower running, and when she came out, her eyes were swollen from crying.
She told me she had started checking her underwear several times a day, carrying intimate wipes everywhere, and avoiding physical affection because she was afraid I would notice something.
She had even started worrying that she might have an infection capable of affecting her fertility.
I reminded her that BV does not mean someone is infertile, although certain untreated STIs can cause complications. I told her we needed proper medical answers instead of allowing fear to control our relationship.
She looked at me and said, “Then why am I the only person who keeps going to the hospital?”
I had no answer.
She insisted that I get tested too. I initially resisted because I had no burning when urinating, no unusual discharge, no sores, and no pain. I couldn’t understand why I needed testing for something that appeared to be happening to her.
She reminded me that some STIs cause no noticeable symptoms.
I finally agreed to see a doctor, but neither of us expected what happened next.

My close friend wanted to flex his new job and invited us out for breakfast. Huge mistake on his part because ten minutes after we got home, my phone started buzzing with angry text messages.
Here is how it went down.
My buddy and I have been tight for years. My wife and I make a lot more money, so whenever we all go out to eat, my wife and I almost always pick up the tab. We do not mind at all. We want our people to enjoy themselves without stressing over prices.
Out of nowhere, my friend texts me bright and early asking if my wife and I want to grab morning coffee and food. I had a lazy morning, so I said yes.
We meet up at a local cafe. Whenever I go to this spot, I always order the exact same thing: their big heavy breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, and giant stacks of pancakes. It is my go-to comfort meal.
Unbeknownst to me, my friend quietly gave his debit card to the waiter right when we sat down. He wanted to show off a recent promotion he got at work. I had zero idea he was paying. I ordered my usual heavy meal right in front of him, and he said nothing.
We ate, laughed, and chatted for over an hour. When the check came, he insisted on taking care of it. I offered to pay my share like normal, but he brushed me off and paid.
We hugged goodbye and went our separate ways.
Then, ten minutes after walking through my front door, my phone blows up.
He texts me a furious message asking why I had to order such an expensive meal when I knew he was trying to save money.
I sat there stunned. I had no clue his finances were tight, because he certainly did not look like he was struggling when he invited us out to play big shot. More importantly, he insisted on paying even after hearing my order!
If he had just let me pay like I always do, or if he had simply said he was low on cash, I would have happily covered the entire bill. Instead, he wanted the ego boost of treating us, but his wallet could not handle my standard breakfast plate.
Would you have paid him back, or let him deal with his own trap?

Sometimes I wonder what my dad thinks when he remembers how his straight A, 16-year-old daughter fell in love with a university graduate, and no matter how many times he told her, “If he were a decent guy, he’d be dating someone his own age. WHY WOULD HE WANT TO DATE SOMEONE WHO’S STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL?” she wouldn’t listen and say: “because I’m smart and I get him 🙄”
And he had to watch her marry that man and move to another country with him.

My Aunt decided to test her husband's loyalty by pretending she had lost their entire savings in an online investment.
She told him she had secretly invested ₦20M and everything was gone.
Her husband sat quietly for several minutes before asking whether she had eaten that day.
She was surprised. Instead of shouting about the money, he hugged her and said they would start again.
She became emotional because she hadn't expected such a response. But when she revealed it was a prank, his expression changed immediately.
He told her he had already started calculating how to pay their children's school fees and cover their rent.
"You made me experience a crisis we don't even have," he said.
He walked straight to the room, pick few clothes and walk out of the house.
It's been 2weeks. He hasn't returned.😫
Do you think her husband overreacted?👇
A woman came into our shop to return a handbag she had bought three days earlier. What she said next made everyone turn around.
She placed the bag on the counter and said, “I want my money back. This bag has caused a serious problem in my marriage.”
At first, I thought she was joking.
I asked if the bag was damaged.
“No. There’s nothing wrong with it.”
“Then what’s the problem, ma?”
She leaned closer and lowered her voice.
“My husband thinks another man bought it for me.”
I was confused because she had paid for the bag herself.
She explained that her husband had seen the receipt in her purse and noticed the price. He immediately accused her of hiding money from him.
Apparently, they had agreed to save for a new refrigerator, and he couldn’t understand why she had spent that much on a handbag.
I checked her purchase record and confirmed that she had paid with her own card.
She shook her head.
“That won’t convince him. He says I must have received money from someone else.”
I felt sorry for her, but our return policy only allowed refunds for defective items.
I explained this politely.
She sighed, picked up the bag, and said, “Fine. I’ll take it home and deal with him.”
Just as she turned to leave, her phone rang.
She answered, and I heard a man’s voice shouting through the speaker.
Then she said something that made the entire shop go quiet.

My cousin called me one evening sounding genuinely stressed.
His shop rent was due in three days, and his landlord had already warned him he would lock the shop if he didn’t pay.
He needed 200k urgently.
He promised he would return it within two months, latest.
I sent the money the next morning.
He called to thank me and even sent me a picture of the receipt from the landlord.
Two months passed.
I sent him a gentle reminder.
“Business is slow. Please give me more time.”
Four months passed.
Then six.
Every time I asked, the answer was always the same.
“Next week.”
“Things are still tight.”
Then last month, he posted a brand-new car on Instagram.
The car looked expensive.
His caption said:
“God did it. New beginnings.”
People were congratulating him in the comments.
I commented:
“Nice ride.”
Almost immediately, he sent me a DM.
“Please don’t start. You know how hard things have been for me. I’m still trying to sort myself out. I haven’t forgotten you.”
My friend called me today to tell me she had just fired her newly employed sales girl.
My friend sells phone accessories and phone, and this girl had been working for her for less than four months.
She markets her madam products on TikTok and Facebook, and the girl also posts the products on her WhatsApp status.
Now, whenever customers contact her to buy something, instead of directing them to her madam’s shop, she redirects them to another shop. She gets a commission from the other shop for bringing customers.
This girl has been doing this for a while, and her madam had no idea until someone casually mentioned it to her.
Imagine😭
