There’s a pretty cool documentary about Jace Mataczynski getting drafted by the Red Sox a few months back. It covers the entire weekend and features a look at his family and his journey up until this point. He signed for $2 MM in the 3rd round. Just shy of 1.2 MM overslot.

The Red Sox gave 3rd rounder Jace Mataczynski a 2 million dollar bonus, which tied for the most given out to any of their draftees. The org is high on Mataczynski. Uber athlete that is a plus defender with great arm strength. He also was dunking on kids on the basketball court.

It's a healthy year for high school shortstops. There's a good blend of hit tool, size and scrappy defense to be had up and down the top three rounds. These are the Top 10 HS shortstops. 68(!) high school shortstops made the Top 600. 👇FULL SCOUTING REPORTS AND RANKINGS👇

Jace Mataczynski is a part of a dying breed of athlete. Multi-sport stud who didn't start to "specialize" in baseball until much later in his HS career. He just averaged 24.5 PPG in basketball this winter and he credits basketball with helping him become a stellar shortstop as a lanky 6-foot-4 kid just figuring out how to use his limbs. Now, he's got three more HRs than he does Ks (10:7) this spring all while MLB scouts flock to his games.
