I removed all the news apps and unfollowed the mainstream accounts. Facebook is gone. I don’t watch the news and I don’t have a TV. I might not know everything happening around the world, but I know what’s happening in my immediate surroundings. That feels enough to me.

First ever Champions League game for me last night. What a brilliant experience and credit to @AthleticClub — superb fans and a decent team.

That was awful. We made West Ham, who are generally dreadful, look half decent. #NUFC

It’s Christmas in a month’s time. Cities will soon be flooded with families visiting markets, the usual festivities taking place — symbols of warmth and community. But after so much violence, you have to ask: is it worth it? The truth is, our cities don’t feel safe anymore.

🇫🇷🇯🇵 The Japanese embassy in Paris offers 24/7 psychological support for tourists shocked to discover that the city isn’t as beautiful as they expected. This is known as 'Paris Syndrome.'

I went to an AHP Conference in Sunderland yesterday. Apparently, the local reading age is between 9 and 11 — yet migrants need A-level English to get a job here.

Presenting at the AHP Conference in Sunderland this morning — sharing experiences of using services, connected care, and improving the NHS for everyone.

One thing that surprised me in China was how openly people spoke about politics and the State — over dinners with officials, I sensed growing frustration, a quiet awareness that development has stalled and working conditions remain tough: long hours, little pay.

The thng is, even if the details are removed, what are the chances of a job going to an applicant expressing gender critical views in an interview? The capture by activist politics undermines meritocracy. Durham isn't "most prestigious", it is anti-meritocratic and authoritarian.
🚨 Durham University, one of the UK’s most prestigious Russell Group institutions, is once again advertising academic jobs with criteria that appear to breach the new Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act. By demanding applicants show “commitment” to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), the University is imposing an ideological test on scholars—deterring dissent and chilling open inquiry. The Committee for Academic Freedom (CAF) is now calling on Durham to strip these requirements from all job adverts and urgently review its recruitment policies to ensure they are never reintroduced. Back from China, man at Heathrow last night: “Where are you from?” “Newcastle,” I said. “You don’t look like it. Did you fly economy?” “Yes. Economy.” No accent, no pint, no football shirt — seems I don’t quite fit the script.

I’m in China now, eating with officials and watching how it works. Power runs on guanxi — banquets, speeches, and favouring family and friends. Corruption isn’t a flaw here, it’s the foundation.
I want an economy like China's. And it's time to say it clearly. Socialism in British characteristics. @WorkersPartyGB

I’m in Chengdu, China — what a fascinating place.

Years of research, dialogue, and reflection on China. Tomorrow, I arrive — not as a tourist, but as someone shaped by the place before ever seeing it.

You go to the doctor because you're exhausted, overworked, the bills are mounting unpaid, the kids are out of control, your partner's left, you've had no break in months - & then the 'help' you get is a drug prescription for a 'mental illness' you never knew you had... go figure.

Congratulations to the #Lionesses on winning the Euros. “Proud to be English,” as Chloe Kelly just said before being cut off by ITV.
The inevitable Chloe Kelly. 🥶

Just finished this podcast on The Death of the Left by @ProfHall1955 & @winlow_s. Passionate, clear-eyed and inspiring. It’s rare to hear people speak so honestly about working-class life. The Rise of the Right stayed with me. Now it’s time to read this. youtu.be/pZSXGSDgtyQ?si=NEMm…
