Good news for members: it’s now possible to reinstate opted-out service for the remedy period.
GPs - don’t be put off by PCSE. They’re not required for this process. It’s handled directly between the member and NHSBSA. It can take time, but the process itself is pretty slick.

Thanks for raising this. I was also surprised by Tony’s thread and disappointed by how our involvement was misrepresented, especially as we exchanged DMs yesterday, which I answered in good faith.
I explained that we simply provided a calculation tool (which matched Tony’s own results penny for penny), I pointed out The Times’ error on not using the actuarially reduced figure, and confirmed that the assumptions and scenario came entirely from The Times (we also provided The Times a quote to counter their narrative). I even encouraged Tony to challenge the numbers, as they don’t “reflect the reality on the ground,” and said I agreed that healthcare workers are significantly undervalued.
I was disappointed to see that turned into a personal attack. I don’t understand the motivation and hope it’s just a misunderstanding. I’ve privately asked him to provide a correction.
Those who know me and know Medifintech know that we stand up for healthcare workers and have been instrumental in righting many wrongs with the NHS Pension, and we’ll continue to do so.

Contingent Decisions (reinstating opted-out membership) is now open at NHSBSA.
Be careful with quotes provided by NHSBSA; they can be misleading and often incorrect.
They also do not consider the annual allowance effect or early retirement factors.

However, this bit is incorrect:
the full purchase is 7y 285days which would give additional £17k pension.
really it should be £6k pension. so the quotes can be very misleading - i suspect poor understanding on NHSBSA behalf

Thanks to @gdcuk and @Jack__Needham from Medifintech for their help with my RPSS and the McCloud remedy.
A fantastic service that I would highly recommend to colleagues looking for help with their NHS pension.

💬 When I spoke to HMRC/HMT policy team we spoke about extending Scheme Pays deadlines for those with delayed RPSSs and they were optimistic
✅ Great to see it confirmed - now 6 July 2027
📌 Important for anyone wanting to use Scheme Pays for a new charge for 2019/20–2022/23
Especially if you have no statement. If NHSBSA can’t meet their obligation, they cannot deny you a scheme pays election on a voluntary basis.
🚨 Don’t panic about the 6 July Mandatory Scheme Pays deadline🗓️
It doesn’t mean you can’t use Scheme Pays.
✅ Voluntary Scheme Pays is still available after this date.
I raised this before, and again with HMRC’s policy team yesterday, suggested aligning the deadline with pensioner members (6 July 2027). 🤝 They seemed receptive, and we expect a response soon.

Good to talk with inews about opt-outs.
"It’s entirely understandable that NHS workers are calling for fairer pay. If salaries aren’t keeping pace with the cost of living to the point where some feel they can’t afford to stay in the pension scheme, something clearly isn’t right."
