I was making an incredibly important speech today at full council about our most vulnerable children. Yet, regardless of political party, not one of them would allow me to speak and, perhaps more importantly, not one of them were willing to listen.
This is not new.
For far too long, politicians have failed to listen. And for years, the very parties THEY represent have failed our nation and, most tragically of all, failed and continue to fail our children.
One of the most prominent and disturbing examples is the rape gangs scandal. A deeply shameful chapter in our nation’s history. And what did politicians across the political establishment do while vulnerable children were being abused, raped and tortured? They looked the other way, failed to act, and failed to give these children the safety and the voice they so desperately needed.
This cannot continue.
Our children deserve politicians who will listen. Our communities deserve representatives who will put people before politics. And future generations deserve leaders who are prepared to confront difficult truths, stand up for the vulnerable, and put the long-term interests of our country ahead of their own political careers.
Too often, what we see instead is a self-serving establishment more concerned with protecting itself than protecting the people it was elected to serve.

In just a few months, Labour has delivered major wins for its union donors: easier strike action and inflation busting, unconditional pay rises for rail workers.
Now, after trying to postpone elections it feared losing, Labour wants to rewrite donation rules retrospectively to hobble its opponents
Labour takes the money, changes the rules for its own donors (it has plenty of form on it) then with a straight face, bleats about democracy being bought.
"We need to make sure our democracy can't be bought."
Unite's general secretary Sharon Graham tells @JonCraig it is "wrong" that two crypto billionaires have donated a combined £72m to Reform UK - and defends her union's past donations to Labour.

Clacton has spoken and @Nigel_Farage has won resoundingly!
More votes than in 2024, showing how fed up people are with the establishment’s relentless attempts to undermine Nigel and @reformparty_uk.
Every attack only strengthens our resolve to deliver the change Britain needs.
Great reception on the doors in Clacton yesterday.
The response was clear: the public are still behind Nigel and are fed up with the establishment trying to destroy him.
Make sure you send them a message tomorrow and vote for Nigel!
I'm deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Ann. She was a wonderful person, a patriot and a friend.
The emerging details are heartbreaking for her family and for everyone who knew and cared about her.
May she rest in peace.

Ten years ago today, the British people made a historic and courageous decision to reclaim our nation’s sovereignty. 🇬🇧
I was proud to stand on the front lines of that campaign and fight to honour the democratic will of millions - including taking some of the toughest stands, and calling for Prime Ministers to resign when Brexit was not being delivered as promised.
Ten years on, I’m disgusted to see Starmer and this Labour Government now attempting to quietly unpick the choices the British people made in 2016.
Millions voted to take back control of our borders, our laws, and our future.
That democratic mandate must be respected.
We did not fight for a decade to see the establishment take Britain backwards.
The will of the people must - and will - be defended. 🇬🇧
