Since its implementation in 2009, WADA has taken the lead in developing the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP), a multifaceted anti-doping tool that builds a long-term image of an athlete’s biological profile and identifies changes that may signal doping.
Recent successes highlight the impact of new ABP features, including blood-based markers of steroid use and the Endocrine Module, as well as the continued importance of the Hematological Module in detecting and deterring doping and the ABP’s role in uncovering sample manipulation.
🔬 Looking ahead, we will host the fourth edition of our ABP Symposium from 27-29 September 2027 in Tokyo, Japan, bringing together leading experts and decision-makers to shape the future development and implementation of the ABP.

The power of GAINN strikes again 👏
WADA congratulates Poland’s Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police, the Silesian Border Guard Unit, the Czech National Anti-Drug Police and the Polish Anti-Doping Agency @POLADA_official on a successful joint operation that dismantled an international criminal group and led to the seizure of 167 kg of illegal drugs valued at more than CAD 450,000.
This investigation is one of many direct outcomes of our Global Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network – and another powerful example of what can be achieved when anti-doping organizations, law enforcement agencies and governments work together proactively. Our Intelligence and Investigations Department encourages countries seeking similar results to connect with us.
Another strong blow struck for independence and accountability in clean sport at major events. @wada_ama President @WitoldBanka: "We have seen in the past the damage caused by a lack of oversight and independence in the delivery of the anti-doping program. Putting in place an entirely independent process will help avoid a repeat occurrence and will ensure equal treatment for all athletes, regardless of their nationality"
Our Executive Committee met virtually this morning to receive key updates and make decisions focused on strengthening the global anti-doping system. Discussions included the issue of National Anti-Doping Organizations’ operational independence, with WADA set to initiate a comprehensive review of its wide-ranging governance reforms.

This is an incredible result for clean sport. Operation LIMS was an extremely complex and difficult investigation requiring immense diligence, expertise and professionalism of WADA's I&I and legal affairs staff, as well as our partners in other organizations.
‘Operation LIMS’ has now passed the 300 sanctions mark, marking the most successful investigation in anti-doping history. 👏
302 sanctions against 291 athletes by 23 ADOs, based on data retrieved from the Moscow Laboratory in 2019, involving 22 sports. ✅

It was a privilege to work with Craig, a wise and affable man, and a giant of sports administration. His unshakable integrity put the good health of sport and its athletes ahead of all else. Quick with a joke and slow to leave a party, he was always excellent company. RIP Sir Craig

It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of my predecessor, Sir Craig Reedie. Today, I say goodbye to a great man whose leadership of WADA helped shape the values that we stand for today. His rock-solid integrity and quiet strength meant more to me than words can express. He was always quick to share his wise counsel and to offer his support for the good of clean sport.
My thoughts are with his beloved wife, Lady Rosemary, and his children, grandchildren and wide circle of friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Craig.
