Great to be on site for key step for New @TeamQEH with start of construction work on new multi-storey car park. This key enabling project will free up the existing car park where the new 🏥 will be built. The new 🏥 is my priority and I will do all I can to keep up momentum

Just another out of touch Labour minister. A week after her boss said he was on the side of “bloody-minded entrepreneurs.” 🤷‍♂️ Not a scooby about backing the people taking risks to create jobs.

Common sense.
When will the demands stop? Everyone knows the transatlantic slave trade was wrong. Britain played a huge role in stopping it. So when it comes to the question of reparations, my answer is no. It’s time for the Commonwealth to start looking forwards, not backwards.

Starmer and Streeting failed to act to give valporate victims the redress they deserve. Burnham needs to live up to what he said and act to right this wrong so parents can make long-term provision for their disabled children.

“Could he just outline where that reallocated capital spending will come from?” Cue this rant at the Despatch Box from Wes Streeting to hide his discomfort at not knowing the answer to a straightforward question. Stroppy, brittle and clearly not across the detail. Today the new Defence Secretary was found out. Perhaps he should spend less time on his profile and more time getting on top of his brief? The questions haven’t even got difficult yet.

This is astounding. The government's own figures show working-age welfare will go up by £60 BILLION by 2030, yet the Treasury has to rush out and correct the Chancellor to say there is no timetable for cutting the benefits bill. Looks like foot in mouth syndrome is spreading. John Healey couldn't even find £10 billion to get defence spending to 3% of GDP - the thing he quit over. Don't let anyone tell you this was a 'do no harm budget'. In doing so little, Labour have harmed our economic security and they've harmed our national security.

“I don’t care if he’s the Chair of the Defence Select Committee” A churlish and ill-tempered outing from Wes Streeting at the Despatch Box as he undermines Tan Dhesi and the Labour-chaired Defence Select Committee that holds the Defence Secretary to account. This is entirely the wrong tone to adopt.

The Welfare Party won’t cut the benefits bill. 😳 Conservatives will and have set out plans to do so.
When does the Chancellor plan to bring the benefits bill down? Nick put this question to him: "There will be cuts in welfare before the election?" John Healey replied: "There will be. There will be a reduction in the benefits bill. We'll do that in a Labour way." This seemed it imply there would be a cut by the next election. The Treasury has since got in touch to say Mr Healey was not setting a timetable.

Unbelievable! 🤯 This morning, the Chancellor said the welfare bill would be cut before an election. Now he’s being slapped down by Number 10! The working-age welfare bill is set to hit £220 BILLION. That’s up £60 billion under Labour. They should be cutting it NOW.
Andy Burnham's spokesman says the government won't be setting an "arbitrary target or timetable" on reducing the welfare bill. Pressed if Healey misspoke in his Today interview, the spokesman says: "The chancellor is completely in line with what the PM has said over the last few months that the welfare bill needs to come down, and as I say, we're not setting an arbitrary target or timetable on that."

We Conservatives set John Healey five simple Budget tests. He has failed them all. The Chancellor hasn't even funded 3% defence spending by 2030. The very issue he resigned over! Healey has kicked the can down the road, and failed to take the tough decisions Britain needs.

NEW On the basis of the numbers the Chancellor just read out in the House, the UK is set to borrow MORE in each of the next five years than previously planned

When John Healey stands up today and tells us he will be taxing the banks just remember. It won't be the banks that pay. It will be you.

Britain is facing a fiscal cliff edge. Taxes are at record highs. Debt is £3 trillion. Welfare is out of control. Our armed forces are not properly funded. John Healey MUST take tough decisions today.👇 If he kicks the can down the road, we will all pay for it.

Darren Jones admits John Healey is following the same defence plan as Rachel Reeves! What was the point of his resignation? If Healey fails to properly fund 3% defence spending by 2030, he must resign.

Russian ballistic missiles struck the grounds of a university in Kyiv and the area around it – effectively the campus, Kyoto Park, the area near a metro station, and residential buildings. The exact number of casualties is not yet known. But tragically, there are victims. There are people injured. Rescue operations are underway. There is extensive damage, and there are also reports that people may be trapped under the rubble. All emergency services are at the scene and doing their work – saving lives. The missiles hit very crowded areas, and there is not a single military facility nearby. This was a strike directly on the city, on its infrastructure. Unfortunately, there may be more strikes coming. The attack with “shaheds” is also continuing – against Kyiv and our other cities and communities. And it is precisely under such circumstances, when the threat is constant, when strikes can come at any moment and target cities and villages directly, that artificial delays in providing air defense to Ukraine help terror. It is important that political agreements be implemented promptly at the team level. It is important that our partners understand that Ukraine needs the proper tools to destroy Russian ballistic missile launchers. This would be the most effective way to save lives. It is important that the world sees that Russia is showing nothing but a desire to kill and continue waging war. Ukraine must not be left to face this alone, and it is solely Russia’s fault that the war is still going on and people are still dying. Please take care of yourselves. All partners should stand with Ukraine – with the protection of lives.

This is yet another example of Burnham’s foot in mouth syndrome. He hasn’t thought this through or the implications. Most people who voted for Brexit did so because they didn’t want free movement. Too many politicians have failed to understand the significance and impact of immigration on communities. We have had more than enough experience of what happens when politicians (including previous Conservative governments) promise control but fail to deliver it. The answer is to learn from those mistakes, not reopen free movement.

40% of under 24s in London who are not in education are not in work, seems like an odd time to increase migration
❗️EXCLUSIVE❗️ Andy Burnham has opened the door to Britain rejoining the EU’s free movement rules, arguing an “honest discussion” about the idea is needed The PM said the nature of immigration has been “different” since Brexit, with more foreigners moving permanently to the UK rather than returning home Burnham noted how his father, Roy, an engineer, took advantage of the EU rules in the 1990s to work in Germany He also said since leaving the bloc Britain has lost access to ‘Eurodac’, an EU database on border crossings “I think you have to have a very factual, quite evidence-based debate about this,” he said Burnham made clear staying out of free movement would **not** be a red line for talks (unlike adopting the Euro or rejoining the Schengen Area) Burnham made the comments to me in one of four interviews conducted during his first 100 days in office. All unpacked in tomorrow’s Sunday Times. It’s big news. Free movement seen as a key reason why the country voted Brexit in 2016. No PM has made the argument for potentially rejoining since… until now. (Important to note: Burnham accepts there were ‘very significant challenges’ too with free movement. Hasn’t reached a firm decision yes or no. He continues to mull over ‘options’ for closer EU ties) KEY BURNHAM QUOTE “Freedom of movement had very significant challenges associated with it and I spoke about them in my previous time in Parliament. But, at the same time, it was a type of immigration that perhaps wasn’t as difficult (as now). “Revolving door migration where people would come and then go back is different. The balance of migration has changed, hasn’t it, since then? I think we’ve just got to have an honest discussion about those things.” Read the full story here: ‘Andy Burnham is open to adopting EU free movement’ thetimes.com/article/491a046…

Labour and Andy Burnham are determined to impose the holiday tax which will hit our hospitality and tourism sectors. Only this morning the Chancellor said he wanted to cut the cost of doing business.
