In terms of concrete steps, Az govt could: promise no military action to create link to Nakhchivan; call it the Nakhchivan link not the Zangezur Corridor; junk the stuff about return of Azerbaijanis to “W Azerbaijan” (no-one believes anyone will go back); come up with sensible

Well, maybe, but I do think Azerbaijan can afford to show magnanimity, at the very least to show the world that it intends to break the destructive cycle of tit for tat. It would also help repair Az’s reputation in the West.

Often overlooked is why throwing around the term "genocide" wantonly and without evidence is so PROBLEMATIC.
A. The PANIC and CHAOS it engenders among the civilian population can only result in more death (consider the stampede effect)
B. It obliges combatants to keep fighting to the bitter end, needlessly costing countless lives on all sides
C. It makes it considerably more difficult for Azerbaijan to ever win the trust of the local population. Tensions are high enough as is, why doom any potential peaceful coexistence from the outset?
D. Consider the fear, distrust and grievances that exists in the region even before slinging around the G word. These concerns ought to be addressed and settled. But screaming GENOCIDE will only lead to more fear, distrust and grievances.
In conclusion: I desire the BEST possible future for Karabakh's ethnic Armenians. I'm concerned that the Karabakh of my grandchildren's generation shouldn't remain mired in the same squabbles that predate my grandparents' generation. I'm further concerned that the online trolls and fearmongers, by messing around with their little G word, are doing a tremendous disservice to the people and the region.
