MOD predicts outcome of breast cancer: symptom vs screen detection had 63% higher mortality at 6.7 years, 6.6x>advanced stage, 2.2x> mastectomies and 2x> chemotherapy. 40-49 and 75+years were >70% symptom detected- we must offer them screening pubs.rsna.org/doi/pdf/10.114… @CanadaSBI
This is happening too often in Canada. We must do better @robindellacorte @CTVNews @CanadaSBI @uOttawaMed ctvnews.ca/health/article/mo…

Huge impact of costs saved from early detection of #breast cancer @Anwilkinson @MartinYaffe @MoiraRushton @CanadaSBI @uOttawaRad
Earlier initiation of screening mammography at age 40 may yield substantial health care savings by reducing the cost of breast cancer treatment. ja.ma/4fzvgQl
So proud of this collaboration with @MartinYaffe @Anwilkinson @MoiraRushton to show the strong benefits of early detection of #breastcancer and costs saved @CanadaSBI @uOttawaRad
Our new study shows starting breast screening at age 40 is not only cost effective- it is cost savings. As treatment costs rise exponentially for advanced cancers, earlier diagnosis with screening saves both lives and $ @JeanSeely @uOttawaMed @JRENAUD28 @MoiraRushton @CanadaSBI
Truly proud to call Dr Paula Gordon my friend and colleague, and share the news that she won the highest honour of our country, The Order of Canada. 🇨🇦 #OrderofCanada 🎉🎉👏🪅@DrPaulaGordon @CanadaSBI
Such a tragic loss. We should be aiming for zero loss of life to breast cancer in Canada.
It is in the realm of possible with early detection.
@CanadaSBI
Another potentially avoidable death because of no supplementary screening for women with #densebreasts in Nova Scotia. We’re finding 6 cancers/1000 screens, and 75% are in Category C. These women deserve equity in an early detection. @TimHoustonNS

{Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, accounting for 25 % of all cancer in women. An even greater proportion of cancers of 36 % is found in women under age 49.}
What's essential for both patients and healthcare providers to understand about breast imaging? 📊👩⚕️

I had the pleasure of being on stage with this talented breast radiologist at @SBI2024. This is worth sharing and listening to @CanadaSBI @DanaAtayaMD
“The inspiration for this song was to offer clarity and end the confusion about #breastcancer screening. Average risk women should begin annual screening with mammography beginning at age 40 and continue as long as they are in good health.” @DanaAtayaMD

More hugely important research by the U of Ottawa with Statistics Canada:
“Early detection is even more important in younger women.”
Screening mammography for all women at average risk should start at age 40. Women with dense breasts should also have US or MRI.
Not all breast cancers are equal. Aggressive subtypes are more common in women <50, but no matter the subtype, 5yr survival at stage 1 is >96%. Early detection is even more important in younger women @CurrentOncology @JeanSeely @StatCan_eng mdpi.com/2959016 #mdpicurroncol
Published! @ottawa_of and Statistics Canada collaboration: early detection counts: the most aggressive cancers achieved similar survival rates to HR+ breast cancers at Stage I. @uOttawaRad mdpi.com/1718-7729/31/9/411

In Canada, the percent of breast cancer cases diagnosed before 50: 32.3% are in Black women; 16.6% are in White women. In USA, its 22% in Black women and 14% in White women
