I believed my college when it said it existed to support and empower students. Working as an RA at @BarnardCollege I saw those values crumble and fall away in favor of functioning like a business. Proud to make a case for RA unions today in @TeenVogue teenvogue.com/story/student-…

For an article, I am looking to talk to people who are in AI use gap relationships—if your girlfriend runs every argument through ChatGPT but you avoid it, or if your best friend makes fun of you for interrupting conversations to ask Claude questions, I want to talk to you!

Many people yearn for a friend group, thinking it could fill some sort of hole. But the reality is that having one is not necessarily the norm—and isn’t required for a robust social life, @JeanValjenny writes: theatln.tc/Tulo2zPl

Starbucks CEO makes $50,000 an hour —more than double what some baristas make in a whole year. Tis the season to side with Bob Cratchit, NOT Ebinezer Scrooge. DON’T BUY STARBUCKS (including gift cards!) while workers are on strike for unfair labor practices!

Starbucks workers can win this fight, but they need your help. Please talk to the people in your communities who are still shopping at Starbucks and ask them to STOP BUYING Starbucks until the strike is over!
Baristas are locking arms in front of lines of trucks. This distribution center is Starbucks’ largest on the East Coast, which is why we’re showing up to send a message. We're ready to continue escalating our ULP strike until Starbucks does the right thing. #NoContractNoCoffee

Starbucks workers across the country are on an Unfair Labor Practices strike, fighting for a fair contract. While workers are on strike, I won’t be buying any Starbucks, and I’m asking you to join us. Together, we can send a powerful message: No contract, no coffee.
As of today, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history. Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Where is the "extreme misconduct" in this video @CondeNast? Where is the "aggressive, disruptive, and threatening behavior" that led the company to fire four union leaders?

New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

The anti-Zohran crowd went from: "Zohran isn't visiting any synagogues," to "he isn't visiting the right kind of synagogues" (or to quote JG: "he isn't visiting any mainstream synagogues" [sic]). To now just protesting that he is actually engaging with mainstream synagogues 🤦‍♀️ – at Carter Lake, IA

Unbelievable. Outside the Portland ICE facility, a man and a woman were standing and talking to a pair of cops with shields when one of them draws his pepper spray and unloads it into her face. She was still crying out in pain several minutes later and had to be taken away to get medical attention.

10 years this month since the awful images of Alan Kurdi dead on a Turkish beach went viral and - briefly - looked like they would prompt real change. But a decade later, the West is more hostile to refugees than ever before.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it? If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say? Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

The problem we have is that for years the right - GOP members of Congress, rightwing media, online influencers - combined with ruthless efficiency to weaponize every random story about cancel culture on campus and micro aggressions etc and create moral panics and outrages over trivial things. There is no equivalent on the liberal left that can do the same for much much bigger and more serious free speech violations and authoritarian actions like this. There’s a complete imbalance in the information environment, so people hear about Mr Potato Head but not government agents shooting at journalists.
This is from ⁦@cbschicago⁩ reporter ⁦@asalrezaeitv⁩ this morning who was simply doing her job. It comes one day after journalist Steve Held was detained and then released.
