“After the first two, or maybe even three, I would have said that Americans should feel safe to fly. And I still feel that, even after this fourth commercial accident. It’s too early to tell whether there is some sort of common thread, although I don’t recall a spate of commercial accidents like this in quite a while.” Former FAA and NTSB investigator and NBC News Aviation Analyst @JeffGuzzetti speaking with @ChristineRomans on @NBCNewsNow @TopStoryNBC via #StudiGo mobile studio

data.ntsb.gov/carol-repgen/a… NTSB report of last year's Joby accident, caused by "the separation of a propeller blade during expansion flight testing" that resulted in an inflight structural failure while descending through 8,900 feet. Parts shed over 4 miles. Interesting report !

An off-duty pilot allegedly tried to shut down a passenger planes engines. Now under arrest.
Latest @AlaskaAir flight 2059 developments via @TODAYshow @tomcostellonbc: "So Emerson was hired by Horizon Air in 2001. Since then, he's worked for Alaska Airlines and Virgin America. As for whether this might be the result of some sort of mental health crisis, pilots over the age of 40 have to undergo medical evaluations every six months, and disclose if they have a mental health issue or medications. Full mental evaluations though, are not part of the physical, and Emerson's last physical was in September."

Wow. @NTSB_Newsroom has on occasion removed private parties from investigations, including some airlines and most notably Tesla. But it's unusual for a govt entity to be removed. (From my experience, this is kind of a last-straw action. They try to work this stuff out privately.)
