🇦🇺💔 My fellow Australians, you do not need to keep living like this. None of you do. Last night in Melbourne’s CBD, Jianming Feng was stabbed to death while delivering food. He was 47 and a HungryPanda rider. A husband and father who left Shanxi, China nine years ago to support his family back home. Police say he and another rider confronted a man tampering with their bikes on Frederick Way, near Queen Victoria Market. Feng was stabbed in the chest and died at the scene. A 34-year-old rider was also stabbed and survived. A 51-year-old Footscray man is in custody. He spent years working nights so his wife Xu, his kids and his elderly dad could get by. An ordinary conversation with his wife became their last. This breaks my heart. 💔😭 Australia is a beautiful country. It always has been. But it is going down a bad road and something has to be done to stop this. Only weeks ago, south of Brisbane in my home city, masked gunmen opened fire outside Fitzy’s Loganholme during a boxing night. Nineteen year old Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau was shot in the head and neck. She died in hospital. Three others were also hit. A drive-by shooting, at a family event in Queensland. And it is not just these two headlines. Week after week, the news fills with knife attacks, street bashings, carjackings and weapons seizures. Across Australia, robbery, sexual assault, car theft and other theft climbed hard after Covid. National car theft hit a 17-year high. Western Australia’s assault numbers are at a record. Victoria’s youth knife offending is climbing even as police seize thousands of blades. This is not one bad night, it is a pattern. Stabbings. Shootings. Ordinary people just trying to work, enjoy themselves or walk home. If the Australian government will not turn this around, then it is down to the people to force it and force it they must. All Aussies need to come together and force change. Do not let our beautiful nation go down the toilet. Australia is not a country where anyone should fear for their safety. A hardworking Chinese dad delivering noodles should not die on a Melbourne street while delivering food. A teenage girl should not die outside a Brisbane pub either. Demand better. Force better. Before another family gets that phone call.
