I usually sit alone on the Parliament’s Danube terrace in the minutes before my address to Parliament.
Next Monday, I will do the same before delivering what may be my most important speech to date: presenting Hungary’s 2027 budget.
The budget for fairness and economic growth will be about rebuilding our country. Instead of serving the interests of those who benefited from the Orbán system, oligarchs, multinationals and lobbyists, the TISZA government will devote more resources to those who have suffered the most in recent years, as well as to families, Hungarian businesses, pensioners, education and healthcare.
The 2027 budget will cut the cost of running the state and redirect funds from billionaires and polluting companies to the millions who have been left behind.
We will do this while stabilising the budget, which Orbán and his circle have wrecked, and — thanks to thousands of billions of forints in EU funding — launching investment on an unprecedented scale in housing, transport and water management.
Join us on Monday at 1 PM, when I will present the foundations on which we will build a functioning and humane Hungary in the years to come.

Ukraine’s freedom is not President Trump’s to bargain away.
He is wrong to ease sanctions on Russian diesel, wrong to blame President Zelensky for prolonging Putin’s war, and wrong to undermine a nation fighting for its right to exist. Russia is the aggressor. Always has been. Reward Russia, and we should expect to see more aggression, including from other countries. We can also kiss goodbye to any just and lasting peace.
This is why Conservatives have stood with Ukraine against Putin. Ukraine’s future belongs to Ukrainians. They alone have the right to choose their president, and we stand with President Zelensky because he fights not for himself, but for the survival of his country and his people.

After my today’s talk with @ZelenskyyUa, I’m absolutely convinced that no-one and nothing can break Ukraine and its’ President in their fight against the Russian aggression. I have assured him that he can count on Poland’s and Europe’s full solidarity with the Ukrainian nation.

20 years behind bars for sentences that were meant to last 24 and 21 months.
That is the reality of IPPs.
More than 2,000 people remain imprisoned indefinitely, 99% beyond their original tariff.
How much longer can we tolerate this injustice?

I am pleased @charlie_Taylor6 is raising these issues on prominent media channels. He is right that the status quo is abysmal.
We will be publishing our Youth Custody Transformation plan over the coming months - because for too long governments have bemoaned the youth custody estate but had no credible plan to change it.
These are often the most complex children, who have committed serious offences. We need an estate that first and foremost has capacity to keep the public safe, but also begins the hard work of rehabilitation. At the moment, time in a youth custody institution is far more likely to mean you continue reoffending upon release. This has to change.
Lots of work in this area was set out in the White Paper earlier this year. And more is to come. Transforming the estate will not be easy, but is a moral, economic and social mission.

The RNLI are and should be treated as emergency services. Any threats to RNLI crew, interfering with their activities should be treated as a criminal offence under the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006.
RNLI closes Portsmouth lifeboat station after huge anti-migrant protests
The far right threatened & intimidated RNLI volunteers & is putting lives at risk.
It’s a disgrace that people who risk their lives to save others are being treated like this.

A current Labour peer taking a senior job at Palantir at the very moment the government is under pressure to scale back Palantir’s involvement in the British state and increase AI regulation. Such blatant vested interests need to be removed from our Parliament. If people want to go and make loads of money lobbying for big US AI companies fine - but they should hand back their peerage rather than being allowed to vote on legislation affecting those same companies. It reeks.
After six wonderful years at UK Music, I'm joining Palantir UK as Senior Vice President.
Palantir is the most interesting company on the planet, doing work of real consequence: helping Britain and its allies defend themselves, helping police protect our citizens and helping NHS staff get patients treated and home sooner.
London is comfortably its largest centre outside the US, home to more than one in six employees, the highest proportion among the world's largest technology companies.
We have challenges. Some criticism is propaganda. Some raises legitimate questions about large technology companies and sovereign control. Both require answers.
Part of my role will be to correct false information while working with our engineers to ensure privacy, security and respect for sovereignty are at the heart of everything we do.

Hi. 😊 Swedish dude here.
When our children get sick, we have 60 paid days per year to stay home with them.
Per parent.
They're separate from my 25 paid vacation days.
Meaning I don't have to use my own paid sick leave.
If I'm a single parent: 120 days.
If my child has a chronic illness: 120 days
If my child is hospitalized: unlimited days.
These days reset every January.
By law. every year until child is 18.

When we put "loss of control" on the agenda at Bletchley in 2023, I worried it sounded like science fiction. This summer shows it no longer is and, like Dario points out, we may be far closer to that moment than anyone realised.
AI agents are now being used to build the next version of themselves. As I argue in tomorrow's Sunday Times, recursive self-improvement will supercharge the rate and leave us with less and less certainty about what the models are doing and why.
I'm an AI optimist. After all, I'm a senior adviser at Anthropic. We're barely using the capabilities we already have, and none of this need slow adoption. But the decision on how fast frontier research advances is too important to be left to the labs. Governments, starting with the US, have to step up; just as they do for nuclear power or advanced biology.
That means independent verification that the research is being done safely, an honest picture of how close the labs are to recursive self-improvement, and proper protection against models being stolen. Voluntary testing before release was right for 2023. It isn't enough now.
Dario is right to call today for slowing the pace of frontier development so that safety can keep up, and it is good to see a consensus starting to build on this across the industry. When the labs themselves are asking for speed limits, governments should listen.
There's a trade-off with maintaining the advantage over China and it has to be faced honestly. But even as the US and China compete, they urgently need a frank conversation about how to avoid catastrophe.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

Dear @andyburnham,
A £36m donation to Reform
You could have prevented this
You could protect our democracy from being bought like this
So, why did you drop plans to cap donations?
We need you to reverse course on this now
…before it’s too late.
NEW: Reform UK has received a record single donation of £36m from cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo in what will be seen as the Americanisation of British political funding.
The astonishing sum comes after Andy Burnham last month dropped his support for capping the amount a person or organisation can give in a single donation. The PM may be regretting that now.

I don’t support calls to ban innovation or scientific endeavour. It’s a false choice that undermines some of our greatest strengths as a country.
But the pace of AI development highlights how slow our institutions are - be that parliaments, governments or regulators.
Instead of calling for technology to be turned off or banned, we should rise to challenge of shaping the future in our interests.
