A small ask: If you use something that you read in a tweet, blog post, or professional teacher article, see in a presentation or workshop … … consider reaching out and telling the person. Why? 1/

One of the most misleading things about learning mathematics is that you are seeing the *output* of a great deal of trial, error, sweat, and tears, presented as if it’s obvious, or at best a product of cleverness.

If we provide feedback without an opportunity for the student to use it to improve, we've simply told them what they're struggling with and then sent the message that we don't care enough to let them get better at it. Feedback can't just be leaving comments on a page.

It's time to kick off #MathPhoto22! During week 1, look for #eight to mark the eighth year of the math photo challenge. Where do you see eight as a shape, quantity or numeral? Take photos and post to Twitter using the hashtags #MathPhoto22 and #eight. #MTBoS #ITeachMath

This thread will be dedicated to the victims of the mass shooting in Buffalo. This is Ruth Whitfield, 86. Her son, the former Buffalo Fire Commissioner, said she was on her way from visiting her husband in a nursing home and stopped at the store to get something to eat.

One thing that helps kids not blurt out is I think being crystal clear about when you're asking a question and when not. For example I try to avoid asking rhetorical questions, makes it harder for some kids to tell if it's an appropriate time to speak up. Body language helps too.
