With great sadness we share the news of the passing of Francisco "Paco" Robles at the age of 99.
One of the 4000 Basque Children evacuated to Britain in 1937, Paco was instrumental in bringing together the children that remained in Britain and sharing their story. RIP.

We held a moving ceremony to honour the 14 descendants of the British International Brigades who have been granted Spanish nationality as an act of memory and justice.
Thank you to @IBMT_SCW and Professor Baxell for their unwavering work to preserve this legacy.

We laid flowers in memory of the International Brigades, who fought against fascism in the Spanish Civil War (1936–39). Around 2,400 people joined the British Battalion, taking part in battles such as those at Belchite, Jarama, Brunete or the Battle of the Ebro.

Let us not forget, on VE Day and Victory Day 2025, who were the first Britons to take up arms against Hitler, Mussolini and fascism – while their own government helped secure Franco’s victory in Spain. ¡No pasarán!
