I tweet about a little bit of this, a little bit of that- mostly health and politics. VP Public Affairs for the Cdn Pharmacists Association. Opinions my own.

Sitting in my dentists office and listening to the receptionist explain to someone on the phone that they aren’t accepting patients on the new federal dental plan, is very interesting. Says that they are still waiting for details from the federal government about fees.

Coverage of contraception is interesting - there are unique features that warrant public coverage. Unfortunately, access to contraception is still stigmatized. Think about a young person on their parents plan who might not want to say "mum, where's our drug card" #pharmacare

2/ When it comes to contraception, there are special considerations regarding access that warrant broad public coverage. Happy to see that being acknowledged in the deal. CPhA has long advocated for better contraception access and care.

There are so many people who are affected but our heartfelt thoughts to our pharmacy teams that are dealing not only with the potential danger to themselves and their homes but also doing their best to help their patients.

3) We know #pharmacy teams are working around the clock in areas impacted by #wildifres to help their patients and also help ensure continuity of care for those who have had to leave their communities.

Is it normal for your brand new car to go on the fritz after 3 days and then for it to be in the shop for 2+ months? Asking for a friend… @AudiCanada

As an organization, we've worked extremely hard to keep this issue front and centre with governments so this is an important step in addressing this issue. Super proud of the @CPhAAPhC team for the role we've played to make this happen!
Drug shortages have hit 🇨🇦 families & pharmacies hard this past year. We're pleased the Govt has recognized this important issue & we look forward to participating in upcoming roundtables to discuss solutions to help prevent shortages & better deal with them when they do happen.

Some advice for people calling customer service at ANY company- even if the call is going well, note the name of the person you are speaking to, and the time you spend on hold. You WILL need it later when the next person you speak to has no idea what you're talking about.
Hate to do this on SM but I've been on hold with @RBC for 1.5 hours, spoken to 5 different people, just to activate a benefit for their fancy Visa Privilege card. Turns out, even if you pay for extra services, it worthless.

Ask to speak to the manager/supervisor, they said… FALSE: there is no manager/supervisor to take your call. They don’t exist!

You'd think things like fuel and navigational costs would be included in like... the actual fare?

As a lawyer, I cannot stress enough how bad an idea it is to have judges and legislators make decisions about what drugs should or shouldn’t be approved.
The dueling abortion rulings out of Texas and Washington state could ultimately end up in front of the Supreme Court. The Biden admin is now asking a judge to clarify how the government is supposed to comply in light of the conflict. politico.com/news/2023/04/10…

It’s been such a privilege to work with @IndigenousPharm to get the inaugural scholarship launched. Tuition for pharmacy programs is similar or higher than medical school, and a huge barrier to entry. More indigenous pharmacists = better care for Canadians!

In Washington today to talk about drug importation. At a time when Canada is dealing with unprecedented shortages, we simply don’t have enough to supply a country 10 times our size.

We’re also hearing from Senator Rick Scott about the fentanyl crisis in the US. Moms on this panel are sharing the story of their sons who have lost their lives to overdose. And yes that’s a real life Sheriff!

Well, it happened, my parents got COVID, so we sprung to action and called the pharmacy to get them Paxlovid. Right away, Richard the amazing pharmacist did the assessment and helped figure out my dads meds and they are good to go.

At the end Richard offered to have them delivered (The pharmacy is a 3-4 minute drive away). Instead, my parents said no… our daughter lives ACROSS the city, so she can pick it up for us 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thank you to the great pharmacy team @LoblawsON
