This is a Speaker Carl Heastie appreciation post. Carl and DACC did everything possible to support the election of the two newest Orthodox Jewish members of @NYSA_Majority @JoeyCSaban + @PesachOsina. Yes the Jewish communities turned out in record numbers for these DEMS but Carl went above and beyond. 🙏

When I first ran, many told me I had no chance. But Speaker Carl Heastie, DACC, and a small circle of believers stood with me. Not too long ago, this Assembly district went Republican by over 5,000 votes. Today, we’ve flipped it by more than 20 points. And look across Southern Brooklyn, including my friend Joyce Xie’s remarkable victory in AD49, another race very few believed could be won. These historic victories didn’t happen by accident. Speaker Heastie and DACC invested extraordinary time, resources, and unwavering faith in candidates and communities others had written off. They didn’t just believe we could win. They helped make it possible and saw it through to the very end.
Just asked Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie about this @nysfocus story that dropped today. “It was a fundraiser — a fundraiser,” he emphasized, adding. “Ask me how much money we raised from these games, that would be a fair question. We’ve probably raised 10x that amount of money over the years. “It’s insane to drop that story a day after we spent you know millions of dollars to win a net of eight races,” he added.

I applaud Haley Stevens for the courage of her convictions and her willingness to put principle above politics. Scapegoating Israel, the world’s only Jewish state and one of America’s closest allies, for our nation’s economic problems echoes a dangerous antisemitic playbook. Leaders like Haley Stevens and John Fetterman remind us what courageous and responsible leadership looks like. They understand that standing against antisemitism should never be a partisan issue. No political party should tolerate hatred or demand that its members excuse it for political convenience. Enough is enough.

If you live in Brooklyn, Queens or Rockland: a number of incumbents are unopposed. These candidates are not. They have real opponents and they need your vote on Tuesday⤵️ Sam Sutton @SenatorSutton Joey Cohen Saban @joeycsaban Pesach Osina @pesachosina Aron Weider @AronWieder

Proud to receive the support and endorsement of Congressman Dan Goldman. @danielsgoldman has always been a true fighter for the Jewish community and a steadfast supporter of a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. #teamsaban

With the significant rise in antisemitism in NYC, it is particularly important to elect people like @joeycsaban to the NYS Legislature. As Co-Chair of @NYCCouncil Jewish Caucus (for identity purposes), am proud to see @SpeakerMenin, the 1st Jewish Speaker, knocking doors for candidates like Joey.
We’re in South Brooklyn, knocking on doors with @JoeyCSaban! Joey is running on a platform focused on fighting antisemitism, and it’s great to see his community coming together around his campaign. Let’s go, Joey!

Hey @OsseChi – the reason your bill hasn’t moved is because you are focused on doing what gets you attention, rather than doing basic legislative work that can move the bill. You refuse to engage with relevant stakeholders; and skip public safety hearings where you could question the commissioner directly and get conversations moving. Your attendance record says everything we need to know: you literally have the *worst* attendance record of all 51 Councilmembers this session; and when you attend Stateds via Zoom, you leave as soon as you possibly could. (See video!) It’s unfortunate that you are more interested in doing the performative stuff for social media attention, rather than doing the difficult work to resolve this important issue. P.S. No one is blocking your bill. Stop the rage-bait. There are roughly 60 bills under my committee. Bills move when sponsors do the legislative work, not when they prioritize the political theater.
MOMENTUM! Thanks to all of your calls and emails, a majority of the City Council is now signed onto the CURB Act. This bill would prevent the NYPD from infringing on our first amendment right to protest. The chair of the Public Safety Comittee, @OswaldFeliz, is still blocking this bill from coming to a hearing even after the NYPD abused protesters in his district after ICE shot a man.

Thank you to Joey Saban and State Senator Sam Sutton for helping advance this historic memorial initiative and garnering immediate support from major leaders across New York, including Speaker Menin, Comptroller Levine, and Congressman Jeffries. Truly impressive and important work 👏
October 7, 2023, was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. We have a moral obligation to ensure its victims are never forgotten. Proud to announce our historic plan for New York State’s first permanent October 7 memorial in Gravesend, alongside @SenatorSutton, @SpeakerMenin, @MarkLevineNYC & elected leaders united in remembrance. We owe the 1,200 innocent lives murdered that day more than our prayers and words. We owe them a permanent place in our history. Never forget. Never again.

THIS is what a leader looks like! @SpeakerMenin does not mince words. This mayor has a choice and he continues to choose incendiary rhetoric that endangers Jewish New Yorkers. Choosing the anniversary of a massacre of Jews to spread propaganda is cruel, calculated and dangerous. Thank you Speaker Menin for being an unwavering voice for moral clarity on a day that our city desperately needed one.
🚨Now: NYC Council Speaker @JulieMenin at an October 7th memorial with @UJAfedNY pushes back on Mayor Mamdani’s Oct 7th anti-Israel rant on X.

Thank you Speaker Menin for always leading by example and for your unwavering commitment to the Jewish community!
On this incredibly solemn day, I was proud to stand with elected officials and community members in Brooklyn to honor the victims of the horrific October 7th terrorist attacks and stand with all those whose lives were forever changed. Three years later, we must ensure their memories endure. That’s why we are calling for the creation of New York’s first permanent October 7th memorial to remember the lives lost, honor the survivors, and ensure we never forget.
