Hero ball against old guys is a tall order in your third career game, even for a potential No. 1.

When something takes longer to write than anticipated it means I'm like Robert Caro.

Farewell Oakland Coliseum. In 1967 the head of the Boston Chamber of Commerce urged the city to tear down Fenway and build a stadium like the new ones in Oakland, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Anaheim.

Standing athwart history and yelling stop on this whole trend toward referring to a book's introductory note as a "forward." Join us. Fight Big Homonym. nytimes.com/2024/09/22/opini…

The arc of the NCAA's evaluation universe is long and it bends toward coherence. Salute! Keep going.

Surprised by the number of iconic old songs that people have never heard before in reaction videos.

So Stark Vegas gains what we grateful consumers of outstanding analysis must lose. On the plus and even epic side: @hoopvision68 vs. @JonathanSafir. Let the "rising, omniscient, and indefatigable SEC guru" battles commence.... xitter.cf/GoodmanHoops/status/18…
Mississippi State's Chris Jans is hiring Hoop Vision's Jordan Sperber to his staff, source told @TheFieldOf68. Sperber worked for Jans for one season at New Mexico State as video coordinator. Sperber has done an incredible job with Hoop Vision since starting it a handful of years ago, putting out terrific content and also consulting with college and NBA teams.

In addition to expansion, the field could benefit from new ways to earn AQs (say, outright reg-season champs in qualifying MM leagues). Every bid taken away from a 1960s-vintage committee delights the hoops gods.

Cannot count the number of times I've watched games at midnight or later Eastern time that really didn't turn out to be that good but it didn't matter because Bill Walton was there. His games were a pleasure and a destination event.

If any announcer has ever had the standing to go full-on "Back in my day we knew funamentals, blah, blah," it's a guy who scored 44 points on 21-of-22 shooting in a national championship game. Walton never once went there. He made the game fun. A legend.

This is the same rationale that Boston must have been doing SOMETHING different to cause opponents to miss threes in the regular season despite 4 different coaches, several different roster cores and the effect not following anyone post Celtics tenure.

Goes hand in hand with perimeter D tho. And the fact that it's happened several times over the past couple series means Spo has something to create those open shots.

Saturday's hires by Chicago State and Mount St. Mary's close out the 2024 men's coaching carousel for now. Salute to new oldest coach in D-I, Leonard Hamilton. No. 2 by 60 days: Fran Dunphy. The average men's head coach was born March 17, 1974.

Greg Kampe is the exception: 57 percent of men's head coaches were hired into their current positions within the last four carousels.
