On this October Bank Holiday weekend, please heed the advices contained in the joint press release below from the Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI......they could save lives.....thank you.
❗Stay Safe This October Bank Holiday Weekend❗ With Storm Austen expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain, the Irish Coast Guard, Water Safety Ireland and the RNLI are urging everyone planning coastal, inland water or outdoor activities to take extra care. If you're visiting the coast: ✅ Check weather forecasts and tide times before heading out ✅ Stay well back from cliff edges and unstable ground ✅ Be aware of incoming tides and the risk of being cut off ✅ Carry a fully charged mobile phone and tell someone your plans For swimmers: ✖️ Avoid entering the water during stormy conditions or when strong winds, waves or currents are present ✅Swim only at recognised safe locations ✅ Never swim alone ✅ Leave the water before darkness falls ✅ As water temperatures drop, shorten your swims and wear appropriate safety gear, including a wetsuit, bright swim cap and tow float 🕰️ Remember, clocks go back this weekend, meaning shorter daylight hours and reduced visibility. 📱 If you see someone in difficulty on the water or along the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard, or use Marine VHF Channel 16. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend, but please make safety your priority.

Bhí an ceoldrama "An t-Éalú", ó pheann Seán Óg Ó Duinnín, san Cork Opera House aréir. Léiriú amaitéarach atá ann. The story of Síle, an elderly independent woman, seeking her freedom again. A terrific performance from both cast and band. Bhaineas an- taithneamh as. Maith sibhse.

Beidh mé ag freastal ar an Opera House óiche amárach chun an ceoldrama "An tÉalú" a fheiscint. Táim ag súil go mór leis. Scéal faoi shaol, grá agus saoirse. It's fully surtitled & features a cast of 24 actors & a live eight-piece band. Maith thú Seán Óg agus an foireann go léir.

Absolutely and Utterly outstanding.....looking forward very much to seeing Paul Heaton with Rianne Downey at "Live at the Marquee" as part of his summer tour, in Cork city on 3rd July next year.
An American soul song became an unlikely a cappella classic for The Housemartins. Originally recorded by Isley-Jasper-Isley, “Caravan of Love” was completely stripped of instrumentation for the Hull band’s 1986 version, putting their vocal harmonies at the centre. The single went on to become The Housemartins’ only UK No. 1. Performing it on The Tube in 1986, the band showcased a very different side from their usual jangly guitar pop.

A new book, 'The Chain', will chart 126 years of the office of Lord Mayor in Cork from 1900. It will also track the current Mayoral term from June 2026 to June 2027. If you have Mayoral memories, stories or pictures, please email me [email protected].

"If you cannot read all your books...fondle them---peer into them, let them fall open where they will, read from the first sentence that arrests the eye, set them back on the shelves with your own hands, arrange them on your own plan so that you at least know where they are. Let them be your friends; let them, at any rate, be your acquaintances." Winston S. Churchill
