Gov. @MikeDeWine, when asked what he thinks about Jon Husted's ass.
"Well, you know, when I look at Jon, that's not where I look."
DeWine added, "I will say this - I was with him with him the other night, and he's got plenty of muscles here. I'm talking about..." (taps biceps)
Matt has been right on this issue for over 10 years. He was promoting the idea of real membership programs and giving benefits to grassroots donors when Republican digital was in is infancy. We, including myself, were too lazy to listen to him. If we are going to ever catch up to the democrats, we have to take this approach.
Replying to @johnkhall @tankcat
Activists and donors should be treated with respect, encouraged to participate and not punished with relentless amateur-grade spam for simply raising their hand saying they want to get involved and help you win.
Before we spend a bunch of time on an election autopsy, has anyone checked whether we all just forgot to confirm our official GOP voter profiles?
I ignored about 400 texts saying that was critical to winning. Sorry guys, this one might be on me...

The biggest lesson is that when Republicans stay close to our policies of economic freedom, lower taxes, and smaller government, we win. We need to return to that, stop the distractions, and get back to work for the American people.

When Republicans show up and vote, we win.
I agree with Governor @nikkihaley: South Carolinians want to keep our state red. But we can’t take a single vote for granted. Let’s turn that commitment into action on Tuesday. Show up, bring a family member or a friend, and VOTE.

Republicans have driven Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens out of the GOP.
Democrats have driven John Fetterman and Haley Stevens out of their party.
What does that tell you about who really is the big tent that fights intolerance?

It takes courage to cross party lines and put your country ahead of politics. That’s what @HaleyForMI did today by endorsing @MikeRogersForMI for U.S. Senate.
When I was on the ground in Michigan with Mike this week, I felt the momentum building firsthand. The choice between Mike Rogers’ record and the divisive and dangerous Abdul El-Sayed is clear, and sane Democrats are part of this momentum.

In 2015, I wrote about the challenge - and opportunity - for the GOP digital space. In the 11 years since it got so much worse. rootshq.com/whats-next-for-p…
One of the biggest problems with GOP online fundraising is that we keep looking for easy solutions instead of fixing the underlying problems.
Before WinRed, we were told technology was the reason we couldn't keep up with Dems.
It wasn't. And it still isn't. 🧵

This is a great point. Most folks, including me, gave up on ads a while ago. I think @CampSol has done some good work in the ad space over the last few years, but we should be doing way more.
While on the topic of growing the GOP donor base…
It’s worth noting that our side isn’t even competing on fundraising ad spend, when it’s presumably either the largest or one of the largest investment lanes for Dems to target their donors.
If I were to think of the highest leverage way to release the pressure on texting and email channels, a sophisticated, well thought out answer to Dems social ad dominance would be among the top options.

Ohio Republicans TIGHTEN the gap to 3%!!! With early & mail vote.
For reference, Democrats had a 5% lead in 2022 with the same metric.

To my friends who seem more upset with me than they are with these numbers, I'd encourage another look.
You can believe our tactics are fine. You can defend the status quo. You can blame tech, outside forces, foreign donations, or whatever.
None of that changes the results.
We can do better. We owe it to the candidates and donors to figure it out.
This is a perfect example of why we continue to struggle to fix the problem.
Instead of seriously asking why Democrats are growing their donor base while ours shrinks, we're busy finding examples of Democrats behaving badly to justify clinging to the same tired excuses.
I don't recall anyone arguing that all Democrats do everything perfectly. What I firmly believe, and the numbers over the last few cycles show, is that their fundraising ecosystem works to advance their cause, while ours increasingly works against itself.
I'm happy to have a serious conversation about how all these factors are connected and contribute to success or failure. Cherry-picking examples to dismiss a larger problem is intellectually lazy, and it does a disservice to every Republican candidate who will depend on this ecosystem in the future.

Some digital vendors sound like Anthony Fauci: trust the experts, stop asking questions. We all watched where that goes. Fauci didn’t just burn his own credibility during COVID—he took the institutions behind him down with him. Bad digital vendors are doing the same thing to their industry right now.
“Because it works” is this industry’s version of “trust the science.”
