Rangers were the only Scottish club whose first team squad did not serve in the armed services in 1939-1945.
The Rangers players, like George Young and Willie Waddell, worked in the shipyards for six years.
Poor show.

Somewhere in your house there is a statue or a picture of Our Lady. And somewhere in your family there is a child or grandchild who stopped listening a long time ago.
An exorcist says those two belong together, starting tonight.
Fr. Dan Reehil, an exorcist in Nashville, was taking questions after a talk when someone in the audience spoke up. They had heard him give this advice once before and had been passing it on to a lot of people. So he said it again for the whole room:
"FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE WAYWARD CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN, CONSECRATE THEM TO THE BLESSED MOTHER. GET A CONSECRATION PRAYER. YOU PUT THEIR NAME IN, YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF THEM, PUT THEM UNDER HER FEET."
Then he described what is really happening. A trade:
"SHE COMPLETELY ACCEPTS THIS EXCHANGE. SHE SAID, LOOK, I'LL PRAY FOR YOUR INTENTIONS, AND NOW YOU PRAY FOR MINE. WE'RE GOING TO TRADE."
You give her your child. You take up her intentions. And on the nights you have nothing left:
"THE DAYS THAT YOU'RE TOO TIRED AND YOUR PRAYERS ARE MISERABLE, HERS ARE STILL SPARKLING."
Anyone who has prayed for the same person for years knows those nights. The rosary you fell asleep halfway through. The prayer that was mostly worry.
Then he told them about his own mother. He says Our Lady asked her to make this trade, and to leave her children's prayers to Our Lady for a whole year:
"SHE SAID IT WAS THE HARDEST YEAR OF HER LIFE IN HER PRAYER LIFE, BUT IT WAS ALSO THE MOST FRUITFUL YEAR FOR HER KIDS IN PROGRESSING IN THE FAITH."
That was his mother's path, not a rule for yours. Nobody is asking you to stop praying for the people you love. Only to stop carrying them alone.
So tonight, find a photo of them. A print is best, but your phone will do until tomorrow. Set it at Our Lady's feet and say this out loud, with their name. Thirty seconds:
"Blessed Mother, I give you [name]. I place them under your feet and into your hands. Take my prayers for your intentions, and let your prayers carry my child. When mine are weak, let yours be strong. Bring them home to your Son. Amen."
Then leave the photo where it is.
👇 One word if their picture is going under her feet tonight: HERFEET.

A man walked into Pope John Paul II’s private chapel and witnessed something so extraordinary that the Pope reportedly told him, “If you knew what I know, you too would spend the night praying with me.” But what did the Pope know that the rest of us didn't?... ⤵️
📅 October 22: Feast day of St. John Paul II
Most people remember John Paul II as the Pope who stood against communism and inspired millions. But Italian journalist Antonio Socci collected testimonies suggesting there was something extraordinary happening in the Pope's private life.
People close to him described moments when he seemed to be speaking to someone they couldn't see. And some believed that someone was the Virgin Mary.
John Paul II had dedicated his entire life to her. His motto was "Totus Tuus," meaning "Totally Yours." But according to these accounts, his relationship with Mary went far beyond ordinary devotion.
Then, in 1995, something happened that shocked Italy.
A small statue of the Virgin Mary in Civitavecchia was reported to have cried tears of blood fifteen times. Tests reportedly confirmed the blood was human, leaving many people searching for answers.
But here's the part that makes this story even more mysterious.
According to testimonies discussed by Socci, John Paul II had already been warned about the event through what was believed to be a message from the Virgin Mary.
And the stories didn't stop there.
In 1997, a collaborator reportedly entered the Pope's private chapel and found him lying on the floor, completely absorbed in prayer, surrounded by an unusual light.
That's when the Pope allegedly spoke those unforgettable words about spending the entire night praying.
Now think about this. John Paul II had met some of the most powerful people on earth. He had witnessed wars, survived an assassination attempt, and helped change history.
Yet nothing seemed more important to him than being alone with God.
Even when Parkinson's disease weakened his body and speaking became painful, he never abandoned prayer.
And maybe that's what we should remember most.
We spend so much time worrying about things we cannot control, wondering whether God hears us, or whether our prayers actually matter.
But John Paul II lived as though he knew something we often forget.
God is listening, even when we cannot feel His presence.
And perhaps the most powerful part of his story isn't what he may have seen in that chapel.
It's that the same God he spent his nights praying to is waiting to hear from you tonight.
Saint John Paul II, pray for us.
💬 If John Paul II really knew something that made him pray all night, doesn't that make you wonder what we're missing?
