it's a funny quote, but it's also (if true) a perfect example of why appeasement, even for trivial stuff like renaming a body of water, never works. unfortunately too many powerful people and institutions in the trump era never absorbed that lesson

trump is becoming a different, familiar new york archetype (older guy who skims the newspaper and loudly opines to no one in particular). except he's also the leader of the free world

“The problem appears to be that Ramaswamy, who soared to prominence by gleefully torching his fellow Republican candidates on the debate stage (where Chris Christie famously called him ‘the most obnoxious blowhard in America’), is a uniquely unlikable candidate.”
I went to Ohio to write about Vivek Ramaswamy’s struggle with rural Ohio voters… and then he put out the ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mother.
To many of the state & national Republicans I’ve been talking to, it’s an act of desperation.

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.

novelists love to have a female character trying and failing to focus on reading the book in her hands
Acton releases a response from her brother, which makes me think this will become even more of a backfire. Vivek has simultaneously elevated the horrific story of her upbringing, framed her as someone who's overcome unthinkable horror, and painted himself as a sleeze
