I went from -$1,200 in my bank account to 7 figures building AI software.
Zero code. Zero experience.
The exact roadmap:
1. Pick a boring problem
2. Build it with AI in days
3. Get 1 paying user
4. Scale with content
Start small. Build smart. Grow big.
Turn a vague build request into a clear one.
Instead of “make me a business app,” describe a dog walker, the task to organize walk requests, and the fields: date, time window, and walk length. Then ask for a proposed flow before code.
A good first project teaches you the full loop.
Help a pet groomer collect grooming inquiries. Build a small version, test with sample information, show it to a real user, and improve one confusing step. Each pass gives you something specific to learn.
Before automating a restoration inquiry, write the manual checklist.
What information does a furniture restorer need? Who reviews it? How is the result confirmed?
A clear checklist gives you a process to improve instead of a vague request to automate everything.
AI can help turn messy build notes into a checklist.
Describe a dog walker, the task to organize walk requests, and the result you want. Ask for small steps with a way to check each one. Complete one step before requesting the next big change.
What should happen after someone submits a cake inquiry?
For a home baker, decide who receives it, where it is saved, and how the sender knows it arrived. A nice form is only one part of a useful workflow.
“Delay gratification” and “you could die tomorrow” are both technically true. That’s what makes this so confusing. 😂 One minute you’re planning for the future. The next, you’re looking at flights. The goal isn’t to save every dollar and never make a memory. It’s also not to
Getting ahead quietly still counts.
One less bill. One problem handled. One month with a little more room.
You don't need an audience for progress to matter.
An app idea worth testing: a simpler walk request process.
Ask a dog walker to show you how these requests are handled today. Watch where information gets copied or lost. Those details should shape the first version.
Try asking AI: “What information would you need before giving a reliable answer?” Supply what you can. Keep the remaining uncertainty visible.
A demo should show the boring part too.
The incomplete form. The wrong file. The customer who clicks twice. The result that needs a human to review it.
The happy path gets attention. Handling ordinary mistakes earns trust.
Your first screen needs a clear finish line.
In a tool for a home baker, the goal might simply be a clear inquiry for the baker to review. Write that result above your build notes. Use it to decide whether a proposed feature actually belongs in version one.
The checkout screen asking for a tip before you've received anything creates a very strange negotiation.
I came here to buy a muffin.
Now I'm taking a character test with three percentages on it.
Ask AI for test cases before calling a prototype finished.
“List ways a tool for a gardening service to track maintenance requests could fail. Include missing information, duplicate requests, and a changed request.”
Run the tests yourself and record the results.

Success should leave time for dinner.
Not every evening needs to be a milestone. Sometimes the point of all the work is being able to sit down, ask how everyone's day went and actually hear the answer.
The ordinary evenings count too.
“Comfortable” is the new rich.
Bills handled. A little room for surprises. Time to enjoy the people you're doing it for.
We saved an hour with AI. So we scheduled a meeting about it.
If a tool gives time back, let people use some of it to do the work. Every improvement does not need a recurring call.
When a tool saves time, decide where that time should go. Otherwise another task will volunteer immediately.
