The desktop hasn’t changed in 25 years.
We lose hours of our lives every day swiping between apps, windows, and messages. And now with AI we have another set of tools to manage.
Sign up at intension.us to be one of the first 100 people in our upcoming beta.

The best way to celebrate 10 years as first investor in @huggingface A milestone in the long fight for open source — congrats to the whole team!

Super happy to share our intention to join forces with NVIDIA in a $12,930,300,000 acquisition 💛💚
10 years after starting Hugging Face, open-source AI is at an inflection point. Thanks to the community, we’ve shown that it can be a complement, and even an alternative, to closed-source APIs. But for it to happen at larger scale, it needs more compute, more support, more collaboration and more visibility. That’s why we went to talk to Jensen, who offered to do exactly that with us.
In addition to doubling down on NVIDIA’s massive contributions to open-source AI (I called them the “King of American open-source AI” earlier this year), they’ve committed to strongly supporting Hugging Face and our mission while keeping the platform open, independent and compute agnostic. The founders and the team are all staying to keep pushing this mission forward.
Together, we think we can make open source the default way to build AI, with the goal of empowering 100 million AI builders to own their intelligence rather than rent it.
Excited about the next 10 years! 🤗🤗🤗

I joined @betaworks several years after my partners invested in Hugging Face. That is to say, I have zero financial stake in this acquisition. I did, however, write the very first media article on botcamp at TechCrunch. Time flies, eh?
And as a relatively objective party, I’m thrilled! I couldn’t be happier for the HF team and my partner @Borthwick . What follows is my personal take (warning... it gets intense!):
This is the best possible outcome, at this point in time, for the American AI ecosystem. Because closed AI is the harbinger of the fall of man. Seriously.
We are in the throes of late stage capitalism, such that the burdens and agony of income inequality and eroded trust in our institutions outweighs, for most individuals, any of the gains we’re seeing in science and innovation via technology.
The last seismic shift in technology centered around an exchange that further imbalanced what is meant to be a self-balancing system in capitalism.
We, the consumer, traded away our data for free intermediary access to the web, effectively. A deal with Google and Facebook that was benign until it wasn’t.
No one is more amazed at what the frontier labs have achieved than we are at Betaworks. The technology is remarkable, truly. It is already rewiring the way we think, and powering the most powerful tools in our arsenal.
But it is critical that we take a lesson from the last 15 years of remarkable technology and ensure that these frontier labs:
1. Balance each other out (Anthropic as a paid counterweight to OpenAI’s free advertising-based service is important)
2. And have a third counterweight in the form of open-source AI, of which Hugging Face has been the representative for the past (almost) decade
Choice is the propellant of an economy that works for everyone, and this merger represents a fortification and an expansion of that choice.
As a witness to Hugging Face from the inside, as a part of Betaworks (which was the very first investor in the company), I have never seen @ClementDelangue or the team waiver in their commitment to open source and open science.
This is a huge win, not only for them, but for all of us who believe in leveraging technology to improve life for everyone.

Exciting day for NVIDIA and @huggingface.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. They allow every developer, startup, university, industry and country to build with, customize and benefit from AI.
Thank you @ClementDelangue for coming to me.
NVIDIA is going to be a great home for Hugging Face, its community and the future of open models. 🤗

was lucky to chat with @Forbes (Josipa isn't on this hellscape, good for her) about the latest @betaworks camp thesis and -- spoiler alert: AI agents will solve a lot and, simultaneously, create a flood of second-order problems/challenges. check it out in replies:
VCs: the world is moving away from SaaS and towards outcome-based pricing
Also VCs: your outcome-based pricing scares the shit out of us

being pitched a lot of products that will have agents do things for you (shop, for example) by understanding your preferences via your camera roll access. if it promised to give you what you want, would you let an app into your camera roll?
55%hell no
26%sure why not
