The UK public celebrates a genuine national treasure on his centenary, which coincides with a landslide of council votes for a political party that rejects net zero, wants to defund the institutions that Attenborough's life has enriched, and doesn't care about nature. Go figure.
David Attenborough is now officially 100 years old.

Oxford Street is just a dodgy theme park for tourists now. Between the face-scanning, TERF Christmas lights, candy and wizard shop crime fronts, clipboarders, and pedestrianisation that's somehow making it look even uglier, who'd choose to even go there? itv.com/news/london/2026-10-…

Thinking of how things have changed so dramatically for trans people in Britain because no-one - bar Nicola Sturgeon - really stood up for us. The haters have basically had a free run. Even this week, with horrible surreal things happening - no resistance. No outrage. And you know what’s most shocking? We haven’t actually done anything wrong. Nothing. It’s all based on hysteria and lies from billionaires and bigots. Rewriting the law behind closed doors. Trans banned from speaking. The EHRC helping cook the result. It’s all so corrupt and rotten. I think I might be the only trans tv newsreader now for at least 100 years. @UKLabour @andyburnham

Unless the UK government is intending on giving rebates for YouTube, Netflix, and Disney subscription fees, this is completely unacceptable. Forcing UK citizens to pay twice to access media just because the BBC is forcing it's presence, is disgusting. independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…

The funding gap for the licence has grown year-on-year, and that's because the BBC is as out-of-touch as its funding model. There is no defending a tax on media consumption that's based on a public broadcaster imposing itself in third-party spaces in an attempt to stay relevant.

The fact that this surfaces in the same week as the badly timed transphobic censorship and announcement of a Rowling documentary, is just salt in the wound. The BBC fundamentally misunderstands the public it purportedly serves, and it serves as yet another blow to its integrity.

Last month it was the biphobic straight women. This month it's the biphobic gay men. This and its comments highlight just how many nasty bigoted shits there are out there, and how bi people are often treated awfully no matter which crowd they wind up surrounded by.

Underneath it all is also the gross reality that these gay men are sexist as well. Imagine being a gay guy speaking about other queer men who choose to happily date a woman, and thinking of that choice as degrading or humiliating. So many gay men treat women like shit.

By comparison, the Natural History Museum is closing for the day on 9th October for a private charity gala. They announced this *3 months* in advance across all their platforms, and explained it was for charitable purposes and museum funds. Puts The British Museum to shame tbh.
Waited since I was 7 years old to see the Bayeux Tapestry. Got in an hour-long online queue to spend £50 on tickets. Got there ahead of time. Stood in a queue for 20 minutes. Then was told halfway through the queue that the gallery was closing. The @britishmuseum stinks 😭

Private events helping to fund free public access to museums is good, especially in cases like The British Museum where there are deep ethical reasons attached to why it should always be accessible to the public as a priority.

But this whole thing is farcical. Why is George Osborne so quiet, or frankly Chairman of the museum in the first place?

I actually don't think people referring to bi men as HIV vessels will be kind to them and my evidence is the fact that they're calling them HIV vessels
vewwyyy interesting. A man in my comments said not dating bi men would bleed into real life bc the women who wouldn’t date them would prob also not hire him for a job. v male thinking. women are kind to ppl they aren’t attracted to every day. men usually arent.

Hate to be this way but it's remarkable how this entire discussion is predicated on certain women earnestly and wholeheartedly believing they are free of social conditioning and prejudicial bias simply bc they're women

Yes, if you harbor extremely vile attitudes about bi men like "they're insatiable HIV-carrying cheaters who have disgusting butt sex" I am probably going to assume you're not a safe person for queer people to be around lmao
