RIP Tom Skerritt. A great actor who had an uncanny ability to show up in the most iconic movies, even if it was with the briefest part. I did a wide-ranging talk with him a few years ago that's still one of my favorite interviews [Gift link]: vulture.com/2021/10/tom-sker…

Annapurna Sriram’s "Fucktoys" is a delightful trashterpiece in the vein of John Waters. Not one to usually scream "representation!" from the rooftops, but seeing a South Asian woman take charge of her own image with such gusto is special. #SXSW2025 joysauce.com/annapurna-srira…

Certainly interesting that many of the biggest and best movies of the year are all grappling with living in a post-truth existence, we're all spinning narratives for ourselves and the world that we cannot necessarily complete

I would say having not seen the film yet but loving documentaries that the death of doc filmmaking came when we taught audiences that documentaries only exist as an extension of journalism and not a legitimate branch of the art of moving pictures. The only rule is to document.

I cannot articulate why it feels fascist to destroy the art of documentary filmmaking. Another institution that kinda wasn’t a problem. Partially think it should’ve been a reality show??
The thing about the original Unsolved Mysteries is it had his voice coupled with some of the best direction of all time. I have piles of reference pulled from that show. I loved horror movies as a kid, but Unsolved Mysteries kept me up at night.

Few things horrify me to this day as completely as Robert Stack's voice. It terrorized my childhood and never let up.
No disrespect, guy’s got a good voice, but you should not be allowed to host Unsolved Mysteries wearing anything but a suit. Farina often skipped the tie, but he always had his jacket on.
The wait is finally over. Unsolved Mysteries is back with brand-new cases, clues, and stories to uncover. 🔎
Join Jordan Murphy each week for a brand-new, immersive video podcast featuring a 30+ minute mystery, clues to uncover, and cases where your detective skills could help crack the case. Plus, Jordan shares new updates from the Unsolved Mysteries files, including cases that have been solved and others that still need your help.

Coming of age in the DC suburbs, before making my way online later in the 00s, I’d pore over the film section of the WP Friday arts supplement every weekend; Ann was my first favorite film critic, and shaped my early ideas of what film criticism could do; I owe her a great deal
Ann was a fantastic critic, and a warm, lovely person. This is just terribly sad news. washingtonpost.com/obituarie…

I was happy to write a little something about my friend and colleague Richard Riehle for Variety.
Why ‘Office Space’ Actor Richard Riehle Was the Quintessential Actor’s Actor (Guest Column) variety.com/2026/film/people…
Sort of. They know they’re lying. They do. But they don’t think of truth as related to any individual claim. There is a bigger truth, the only truth, and it’s Them, or the Idea of Them, and they believe they’re honest about *that*. Everything else is an inconvenience or quibble.
