The Iran-Contra affair began to surface on November 3, 1986, when the Lebanese magazine Ash-Shiraa reported the U.S. had secretly sold arms to Iran. President Reagan confirmed the arms sales in a televised address on November 13. The diversion of profits to the Nicaraguan Contras came to light on November 25, 1986.
My grandfather used to say: “We’re dying of the improvements.”
BREAKING: This may be the worst 48 hours in cybersecurity history.
Some are calling it “Black October.” Almost every hour brings a new incident that, in a normal year, would rank among the year’s biggest.
THE LAST 48 HOURS:
Year-defining incidents:
PHP2Shell: A flaw in the software behind ~70% of websites. Governments took sites offline.
eMudhra: Master keys that verify websites are real were cracked. One was reportedly the number 4.
California: Data on every public school student since 2023 stolen, including disability status.
Railway: Hackers stole customers’ secret keys from a hosting platform used by millions of developers.
Zeabur: 321,810 accounts breached. The company is shutting down.
LiteLLM: An AI tool downloaded 3.4 million times a day was laced with a password stealer.
GitLab: A maximum-severity flaw in every version since 2014.
Cairn: Criminals used an AI hacking tool to break into 100+ companies.

Arguendo @SaraEisen maybe EU will be better positioned for growth, than the U.S., having not misallocated unprecedented levels of CAPEX:GDP on an industry w/o energy or profits. The EU could deploy capital economically, use China’s free open source models or buy ours out of BK.

Today, Russia expressed its thanks for the lifting of sanctions on diesel exports by dropping five glide bombs on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia. As of now, sadly, twelve people have been confirmed killed, including three children. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Another fourteen people have been injured, and two of them are in critical condition – the doctors are fighting to save their lives. The status of twelve more people who may have been there is still being verified. All emergency services are at the scene, and search-and-rescue operations are underway. Overnight, thirteen of our regions came under attack. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and railway facilities have been damaged.
Last night confirmed once again that in Russia, they take any easing of pressure to mean they can keep fighting, to mean they can keep dropping bombs on cities. Different signals are needed. Russia must understand that it needs to stop the war, and for that to happen, Russia must feel its losses. Right now, it is our long-range capabilities that are ensuring this. And we will respond to Russian strikes. I thank everyone who is helping.
1/ Banks are asking Congress to protect the value of their deposit franchise by regulating what competitors may pay Americans, rather than by competing for their money. That is not financial-stability regulation. It is government protection from price competition
12/ Banks have another answer: pay depositors more. The Fed pays 3.65% on reserve balances. In August, FDIC national averages were 0.38% for savings, 0.07% for interest checking and 0.63% for money market. Banks can compete. Congress should not suppress competition for them.

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are in Moscow, Russia They just arrived for more “peace talks” despite the fact that Putin is aiding the Iranians in killing US soldiers.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to pummel Ukraine with ballistic missiles and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. Everyday, Ukrainian civilians are slaughtered and Putin has shown no good faith in ending the war.
@ZelenskyyUa has offered to travel to the US to sign a peace deal to end the war, but Putin continues his aggression against Ukraine and his support for the Islamic regime of Iran despite pretending to support President Trump.
This comes as we were told Trump administration officials would be traveling to Kyiv, Ukraine weeks ago.
Russia is still holding 10 Amercians hostage as well.
We should stop pretending like Russia isn’t a terrorist state.
