Hey, NYT, if you're telling people whether the subways are "safer" or not than they used to be, here's the data points you should use! You're welcome. 1/3

The @harrysiegel intro for @faqnyc's "Terror" pod episode reminded me of David Viola's great book "You Have Unleashed a Storm: New York City’s Descent into Chaos During America’s Most Explosive Era of Radical Violence." 1969-70 was wild...

How did Joseph Makhani execute “a meticulous, multi-year scheme” of deed theft, amassing an empire worth $83 million by 2016? It started with, in his words, “properties that have headaches.”

The final installment of the greatest documentary ever made. A piece of filmmaking intended to show the power of the British class system over time expanded to tackle the question of how we live and process our lives. It's extraordinary.

NYC is the greatest city on earth. You can watch the most important films in history on any day of the week, often for free. Not enough people talk about this because they're kinda hard to find! So I fabled a site that has all the independent film screenings in NYC on any day, all in one place:
whatsplaying.nyc
It's sortable by year, director, theater, 35mm/70mm, etc. and includes every indy theater + free screenings in the parks, museums, etc.
I was reminded this needed to exist by the Feed Me newsletter last week, thanks @Emily_Sundberg
My hope is that people find art that speaks to them 💫

One New York neighborhood has 77 adult day cares that bill Medicaid over $100M a year. But at peak times some of these small, storefront facilities that claim to have 30,000 patients are all empty. New from me: nypost.com/2026/08/03/us-new…
Great story and photos from @Dean_Moses. Thank you to all the responders who assisted people and pets during this awful fire.
