After a year of covering this race closely, and with about a week to go until Nov. 3, here's the final dispatch on the state of the US Senate race from me & @MichiganAdvance. Democratic divisions could hurt El-Sayed, but Trump’s economy may matter more. michiganadvance.com/2026/10/…

When I'm not doing the reporter thing, I'm generally working on my master's thesis, which is focused on why, if and how journalists fact check. Verifying polls is obviously a bit more involved than scrutinizing candidate statements, but this whole situation sets my teeth on edge.

There are so many ways to examine whether the media is scrutinizing claims or pieces of data that don't involve actively sending out false information and waiting to see how far it goes.

@umich’s plan to build a data center/research center in Ypsi township in partnership with @LosAlamosNatLab is reviled by locals And unlike other data center proposals — Umich is immune from zoning — Ypsi township won’t gain tax revenue The community town hall on 10/1 is already fully booked

My family is in a worse financial position since @usatoday bought @detroitnews because of increased health insurance costs. We are back at the bargaining table today. Time for USAT to show they value journalists - not just shareholders - by agreeing to a fair contract.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers says the war in Iran "need to end to bring costs down":
The war in Iran needs to end to bring costs down — but Michigan families can’t afford to wait. Here’s what we can do now: place a temporary embargo on Diesel exports. American energy should provide relief to American families first.
